  • I think Hawaiian pizza is one of those foods I’ve always hated because I had poor experiences with it growing up. Sort of like shepherd’s pie, which I only knew of through the abomination served at the high school caf.

But recently, I tried it at a new pizzeria that opened near me. They honestly used real ham like you would get at an Easter banquet. Not the processed sandwich meat. And that was actually really good with pineapple!

  • I’m intrigued by this Telesat Lightspeed project. Telesat’s been around forever, but to my knowledge, this is the first time a Canadian company is legit looking at deploying a LEO communications constellation with over a hundred satellites.

By comparison, Starlink of course has thousands, and it’s unlikely the Telesat network would be offering to your door Internet anytime soon. Part of it is gearing towards military applications, but if I’m understanding it correctly, the civilian side involves providing backbone connections to remote communities. So say you live in a remote arctic village. You might get a single high speed connection which is then distributed across a local cellular network.

  • I’m not a game dev but work in a scientific field. One thing I didn’t see mentioned here which may or may not be relevant is it pays to try to keep your memory footprint as low as possible. Memory I/O is a bitch. So for example, let’s say you have 2 vectors that interact in some way. You may be tempted to store precalculated interactions in a matrix, but generally speaking, it’s best not to do this. Just calculate each cell of the matrix on the fly as you need it, even if it’s a long formula and you need to access this same value many times. 2 vectors are more likely to fit in L1 cache and you’ll get the best performance out of all the compiler optimizations. It makes a huge difference.
