Throwback to all those English sailors who would “go native” when they realised there was more to life than European mercantilism/capitalism.
Honestly, this was the most stressful part of Covid for me. I know I was fortunate enough be able to work from home for most of it, but having my boss or some other group I was a part of going “iT’s oVeR! TiMe To gEt BaCk tO nOrMaL!” every week or two for two years was a fucking roller coaster I din not need to be on.
yeah I have to work in close quarters with people in small rooms and before vaccines were even rolled out I got a message that said “I know we all can’t wait to get back into the office” instead of saying “We wanted to check in with everyone to see how you’ve been getting on and how we’re feeling about coming back into in-person meetings” so I quit and worked with a different org
Still better than those who had to keep working through it - medical professionals, especially.
Oh for sure. I count my blessings. I don’t think I could even handle being frontline medical in good times.
I’m 51 and the longest I’ve ever been able to take off of work consecutively was a week. I’ve been working weekends since I was 11. I did get one weekend off last year though.
