There are two ways to read the comment. If you see a downvoted comment, imagine if it were an upvoted comment and see if you read it differently.

I’m reporting as someone who grew up in the 1980’s, when mimes were widely despised, and this comic is clearly an example. There was some anti-arab media in the 80’s, but it really picked up in the 90s.

I’m reporting as someone who grew up in the 1980’s,

Yes? I was born in 1975.

when mimes were widely despised, and this comic is clearly an example.

Which has nothing to do with your initial comment nor my reply.

There was some anti-arab media in the 80’s, but it really picked up in the 90s.

I’m quite aware. Plane hijackings were one big reason, then the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, and then it ramped up significantly in 2001 for some reason or another.

None of which justifies a racist comment.

I don’t understand the purpose of your reply. I’m assuming, however, that you are attempting to defend your comment and explain why it’s not racist, but you have failed to do so.

I don’t particularly care to hear your defense, as the comment is, in fact, racist. I was doing a courtesy of pointing it out to you, as a quick glance at your posting history doesn’t seem to indicate that you are a troll or racist in general, so I assumed it might stem from outdated beliefs. I’ve certainly had to face such things are society has progressed beyond what I learned when I was a child.

I’m refering to the way society/Hollywood has a rotating cast of villains, people who are just allowed to hate and not feel bad when the hero murders them, from Native Americans, to Dr. Fu Manchu to Nazis to commies, to mimes, to arab terrorists.

A more complete thought would be that before we irrationally hated on and dehumanized arab terrorists, we irrationally hated on and dehumanized mimes.
