Hey,
I made a post here earlier about my work attire so thank you all for the feedback.
I’m starting a new job soon but I still have yet to secure a place so I’m currently still homeless at the moment. I just need a little bit of food to hold me over for the month.
The staff at the food bank first asked if I was a student, then they asked me if I was employed and told me to show them the offer letter. One of them asked me how I lost the arm and I said I wasn’t comfortable in saying why.
They then finally asked me where I live and I stupidly said that I was homeless. They then told me that they can’t offer any assistance to me at this moment and urged me to leave.
I feel so humiliated and defeated. I thought food banks provided for everyone.
Where the hell are you going to store the food, my guy?
They usually have these things pre-sorted into caches that are meant to stock your shelves - but if you don’t have any shelves, wtf? This is your misunderstanding, not them being callous.
Lmao you should be shot.
Have been. I’m guessing you’ve never lived in a neighborhood like that though. I’ve lived the life, I know its rules. Just because you’re too ignorant of them doesn’t mean I’m being harsh.
Sorry your life experience made you such a dick but I have lived in those neighborhoods and eaten plenty of food pantry food. People I shared a house with have been killed or died because this shitty capitalist system used reasoning like yours to keep them poor.
I’m sorry to hear that but the rules aren’t necessarily universal and even still they can be handled with grace.
You ever hear of a duffel bag? Shopping cart? Ruck sack?
What the hell man. Are you really advocating that a homeless person shouldn’t have access to food because they don’t have reliable access to storage you deem acceptable?
Unironically check your privilege, homie.
Shit.
Not everything a food bank gives out is non-perishable.
You’d know that if you’d ever been to one. Unironically check your privilege.
As I stated earlier - the food is given out in ‘lots’ - It has perishables, and non perishables. They can’t give it to him if he doesn’t have a place to store it. (A “friends place” isn’t a place to store it either because then who’s to tell if the “friend” isn’t just using him to hit up food shelters for a second time?) A good portion of it would simply rot if he didn’t have a place for it.
Due to the way it’s all regulated, they can’t just keep some of it and give him only non-perishables either. (Due to people pinching stuff out of the lots to take home for themselves) Your ignorance is shining so brightly I can hardly see at this point…
It’s winter in Canada. Well below freezing.
They’re homeless.
They need food.
Shut the fuck up lol
You ever been homeless? I have. Only thing you seem to have less of is a brain.
At a friend’s place? They also have prepared meals that I was going to take anyways. If that was their concern why didn’t they simply say so?
Because they’re dicks. No two ways about it. Really sorry you had to go through that.
There are regulations surrounding how they distribute, to who, who qualifies, etc.
If you tripped one of those things, they just simply can’t give it to you.
It’s not their concern. It’s mostly people who don’t understand why it is the way it is, but have been told that’s how it is and to follow the rules.
Like, go ask a McDonalds worker why their hashbrowns are $2.50…they don’t know, they just know that’s how it is. Don’t blame them, blame the people who wanted strict oversight into how donated foods were handled.
