In my readings of the Bible, I’ve read Jesus through the lens of a Buddhist interpretation. There are quotes like John 14:6, but I take Jesus as saying something like this:

    1. I am the Son of God
    2. God is all good, all loving, etc.
    3. I inherit the traits of my father (goodness)
    4. You can only reach God through me (emulating goodness)

Through that lens, quotes like these make more sense (at least to me).

    Galatians 3:26-29

For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise. (my emphasis)

I’m a UU, so my reading is more personal to my own faith journey. Christianity can be very particular towards Jesus, but when Jesus talks about abstract concepts (“I am the light…I am the truth.”), it feels like he’s extending himself into that abstract realm, and by proxy, humanity / servants of Christ.
