There were 2 hiphop groups in the 90s that came out with almost the same song at the same time.
IIRC, one group was from around Atlanta, the other group somewhere in or near the Midwest like Indiana or Chicago.
Again IIRC, they sued each other in court for plagiarism, and the Midwest group was ruled to have been first.
Again IIRC, one of the groups had a number in their name.
I’m thinking that this was some kind of dance craze that was circulating through HBCUs at the time, and these groups just recorded their tracks to reflect the music.
Both songs’ refrains were very similar, with the difference of 1 or 2 vowels or letters.
Again IIRC, the refrain was similar to the “Hey… Ho…” refrain in “Hip Hop Hooray” from Naughty By Nature is used there, but I’m almost positive that that was not it.
