I mean the title question would be super illegal. The thing he did is probably fine if its in a bag and especially fine if he didnt hit anyone with it.
It probably could constitute assault, even without hitting someone
I’d say about the same level of assault than the christians gathering to call other people murderers.
Unfortunately, “they deserved it” isn’t really part of the law.
