I thought this was going a different direction …… a neighbor when I was a kid had a nice garden that kept getting eaten so they built a fence. However deer were motivated enough to jump the fence for food. Once they were inside, they were trapped. Maybe lack of motivation to get to the no food area or maybe just not enough room to work up the speed to make the jump
