Donald Trump has threatened to impose an additional 50% tariff on imports from China on Wednesday unless the country rescinds its retaliatory tariffs on the United States by Tuesday.

The news comes on the third day of catastrophic market falls around the globe since Trump announced his trade war last Wednesday with tariffs on the US’s trading partners.

As part of that move the White House announced it would impose a 34% tariff on Chinese imports. In response, Beijing announced a 34% tariff on US imports.

I think you’re overestimating the intelligence of your average dollar general shopper.

I don’t like the framing of this as “poor people = stupid,” but either way China produces everything from the cheapest commodities to high quality machinery, it won’t just be Dollar General hit.

Intelligence is relative. You could be a rocket scientist trying to convince me that Trumps’ foreign policy moves are brilliant and I would still consider you to be an idiot.

Your point was that dollar general shoppers are too stupid to connect rising prices with the tariffs everyone is talking about. This is infantilization of the working class.

And yet the data shows that people in Districts with a higher number of dollar stores vote Republican. You know, the party best known for their social policies designed to help those in need.

You can whine all you want, but these people are getting exactly what they voted for, TWICE. Thinking anything will change their minds now is laughable.
