The FIA convened a meeting in Bahrain today to discuss the current and future Power Unit direction for Formula 1. The meeting, chaired by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the CEO of FOM Stefano Domenicali and FIA Single-Seater Director Nikolas Tombazis, was attended by representatives in person and via videoconference from Audi, Ferrari, Ford, General Motors, Honda Racing, Mercedes and Red Bull Powertrains.

    While less than 2 weeks ago we had Nikolas Tombazis (FIA head of single seater racing) saying:

    “That is a fact. We would like them to be cheaper, and that’s why the president made the comments about the V10 engine in ‘28 and so on.
    “That’s something we are evaluating, or for '29 or whatever, with the PU manufacturers. We are discussing openly with them the best direction for the sport.”
    Tombazis went on to explain how the talks over moving to V10s for 2028 or 2029 had then opened up a second debate about what to do with the new rules coming in for 2026.
