I use Fediverse Obsever, which, for example, shows instances that allow signups, (ex: registration is disabled for lemmy.one) but am not sure of many instances where you don’t have to type a verification (besides lemmings.world). I think it’s good to have a typed verification, I’m just wondering which ones don’t.
Earlier I used to hate instances that did this, but now I think it’s okay. Its like joining a private community. But hey I only had a single experience with this verification, so don’t know much about it now.
sh.itjust.works
you can use a throwaway email
Instances that don’t have email approval, captcha or manual approval, tend to get defederated pretty quickly, because they attract spam bots
What about email approval and captcha but no application?
I know thelemmy.club is one.
I do occasionally turn it on when there’s waves of spam sign ups.
But I know how off putting it is to a new user to have to wait and be approved for some site you’re not even sure you want to join.
