  • I’m not sure I’ve ever had a “best moment”.

My worst moment is probably that time when I defended myself against a bully in highschool and got arrested and I was in the police station for a few hours. Charges were eventually dropped. But I fucking hates those pigs. They didn’t investigate shit, they just took the words of the school administration and the bully.

    ACAB, never trust the pigs.

I hate almost every “cop” character in Movies and Tv.

I wanted to watch The Wire but then there was a scene were the cop told his subordinates to lie. So I just stopped watching.

    And in Stranger Things

    Season 4 Spoiler

Eleven fought her bully and got arrested. Like I can’t even continue watching the bullying scene, I just read the plot and its fucking infuriating

  • Still 10 times less fascist than Google.

Andy Yen is also Pro-Ukraine, Pro- Hong Kong protesters, anti Russia censorship.

(And I think he donated money to Ukraine during the Russian Invasion of Ukraine if I recall correctly)

Andy Yen said stupid things, but he isn’t American to know the fact that just because Democrats suck, doesn’t mean that Republicans are any better. Its not like Andy Yen went full “Elon” mode and seig heiled, Andy Yen is a right-wing Libertarian that have no idea what he’s talking about.

  • But the actual problematic DEI hires are not talented people like Kamala Harris. They are connected incompetent people.

I argue that Harris isn’t really that much of a “DEI Hire”.

I mean, sure, you might argue she only got picked because of race and gender. But the purpose of politicians in a democratic system is to make people feel represented, not necessarily the “smartest” or “most experienced”. Race and Gender absolutely matters. Like, if we keep having white men in the white house, that is a big “f you” to women and minorities. So picking Harris is absolutely essential to acknowledge the existence of Black people and Women. (And Harris isn’t even some random person, she was qualified enough to be Attorney General of CA, and a Senator, merit definitely contributed to her getting picked)

Besides, the President (and Vice President) will have a lot of advisors to help them with the job, you don’t need someone that’s an Einstein to be President, just someone with overall good policy and some compassion, and can pick good cabinet members to run the country.

  • I feel like “DEI” is a bandaid to a bigger issue, that is: unequal opportunities due to schools that aren’t properly funded (amongst many other things in a person’s childhood).

If those issue are fixed, these “DEI” stuff wouldn’t even need to exist.

    Also:

I hate how people complain that Harris is somehow “DEI”

Like, isn’t politicians supposed to represent the people? If they keep picking White Men, how are minorities supposed to feel like a part of the country? There were 45 presidents of which 44 were White Men, and this ticket of a Black Woman (Harris) + a White Man (Walz) somehow triggers people. 🙄 (Like who cares, vote for policy, not people)

Even if Harris was elected, Black Presidents wouldn’t even represent 5% of all people who have been presidents. (2/46 = 4.34% vs the black population at 13%) Why they (conservatives) be complaining so much lol.

  • Idk I don’t quite remember

    Like I remember its just… utter confusion…

Like, imagine watching a show in a different language, or anime, and you had no subs or dubs

Idk what I was doing I was kinda just staring into space most of the time in class

Luckily, Cantonese is a common language in the US, because immigration from GuangZhou is common, so teachers just found a US born, second-generation immigrant kid that speaks Cantonese to translate, and there were a lot of those (and Mandarin would’ve been fine for me too, I went through 1-2nd grade in China).

I was like usually one of the first few to solve problems in math, if not the first, but english sucked (for obvious reasons), and writing sucked, especially when you have to write a story (as in, creative writing) with zero guidelines.

But still, school sucked, I never felt belonging.

The US-born chinese-american kids wouldn’t even talk to me (outside of like just translating stuff). The English-only kids definitely have a hard time trying to talk to me. I basically had zero friends. Maybe like one or two “acquaintances” that speak Cantonese/Mandarin, with occasional “Ni Hao” from the English-only kids (I felt like they were mocking me tbh).

I think it only took like 2 years for me to learn the basics of English, but like, still missing a lot of vocabulary. Like, even 3-4 years later, I still didn’t even know what the spiral metal bouncy thing commonly found inside a pen was called in English, until someone said a “Spring” and I was like, a what? The Season? And they had to describe it to me. And that just one instance where I know a concept and the word to describe it in Chinese, but don’t have the word in English.

(And I didn’t get a phone or some translator tool, and my parents were strict on computer usage time, so I never use the internet to learn anything. Like why learn when time is limited either way, might as well spend every second play video games. Thanks, strict parenting!)

Eventually, I stop needing anyone to translate anything. But later, even when I move on to middle school and high school, I still don’t feel belonging.

Like the US-born Chinese-Americans kids have more in common with other (non ethnic-Chinese) American kids, than an immigrant like me. Even though, my English has now become better than either Cantonese or Mandarin. So now there are some Mandarin-only kids which I also don’t feel anything in common with, since they don’t speak English, and my Mandarin sucks worse than Cantonese (kinda like the reverse roles of when I first came here lol).

So yea, that’s the story of why I don’t have friends. I don’t know if I said everything coherently (due to depression, not because my English sucks lol 😅), ask if you need clarification.

  • If there is an infinite Multiverse, there is a universe where the inhabitants believe the Multiverse doesn’t exist, doesn’t make it true.

If there is no infinite Multiverse, the inhabitants could also believe that it exist.

    No paradoxes.

Edit: A computer can run Virtual Machines, but there could be some VMs where another VM can be run, while other VMs have some “system corruption” that make the VMs impossible, but VMs still exist. Just because one VM cannot run VMs within itself, doesn’t nullify the existence VMs

  • My compromise is to just to minimize big tech tracking.

I mean, 90% of data is because people use corporate social media with real names and real IPs. I don’t use “social media” like everyone else, and that is just cutting away 90% of mass surveillance. I only occasionally look at reddit over VPN (without loggining in and never posting anything), I use Lemmy over Tor. Use Fennec (aka: firefox, but from F-Droid) + uBlock Origin + VPN, for everything else (like watching youtube videos)

I usually only have Fennec and Tor (amongst a few other things) through VPN, everything else is going to clearnet. My though is, if I put the entire traffic over VPN, Google would see my VPN IP attached to my device serial number.

If there is some university thing, I’d just begrudgingly use it. Use browser if possible, but if app is required, probably put it in a “work profile” (the Shelter app from F-Droid can do that) to separate it from everything else, and prevent any such app from seeing my files. Also give as few permissions as possible. And never installing any “profiles” or “certificates” they give you for access to their wifi. They should have a “guest wifi” without such requirements so just use that instead. (Or get a second phone with the “Share Wifi Connection” ability and use that as your “router” and connect your main phone to it.) Or just use mobile data if you can afford it.

For banking, put the app in the “work profile” or use browser if whatever you need to do doen’t require the app.

For uber/lyft/taxi, probably use the browser, or if that doesn’t work, again, put the app in work profile, don’t give permissions until I’m ready to use it, and its getting deleted the moment my ride is done.

For maps, unfortunately I still have to use Google Maps, because I value being alive and not getting lost in some sketchy neighborhood over the privacy… 😓

I feel like Graphene OS is too much of a hassle for me, I’ll have to get a Pixel, which does not have a microSD slot, and that’s a dealbreaker for me.
