Halfway through Animal Kingdom S2 so far. Idk, it’s not terrible by far but it’s not really gripping my attention much either, I fast forward through all the alpha male stuff. I like Shawn Hatosy though and everyone says he does great in all 5 seasons so I guess I’ll keep going

E: also I’m so over this heat, it’s driving me mad. Literally the only silver lining being that there’s less acclimatisation needed for my upcoming trip.

I think I prefer the mornings to the late evenings.

Have been crashing fairly early the last 2 nights despite being able to stay up late.

I’m picking up an armchair for free from Marketplace this morning. Similar style wood frame to my couch, and with a new cover with the same fabric I’ve been recovering mine in it should blend in fairly well. This will solve an issue in furniture placement in the new place, I will be able to have the couch and a single chair in the dining/lounge, and two chairs in the sewing/sitting room. Or if something goes wrong and I don’t end up getting this place I’ll have an extra chair I don’t have room for 🤣

I think I’ll sell my buffet unit. It’s a really good solid piece of furniture that makes me feel like I should find it a place, but it really doesn’t fit anywhere. Plus it is really heavy and because it is so long has limited options on where in a house it can go. Which makes it hard to get out too, it has to go out the back and out the side gate, which means I would have to lock away Mr Woof, traumatise Miss Meow and let a stranger into the main area of my house. I might just get the movers to put it in the carport when I move, then I can sell it as unattended pickup.

Has anyone here done adult swimming lessons?

I took lessons from about age 3 to 13, but that was a long time ago. Also, I was stuck on the same level for about three years, never really progressing, probably because of dyspraxia. The last time I went swimming in the ocean, I found it really difficult to keep myself afloat beyond just floating on my back, which is not conducive to activities like snorkelling.

young Mr Seagoon is a licensed swimming instructor for kids and adults

I could ask him a question if you like.

he’s a good teacher too, kind and patient

Good morning, in further public holiday brainrot developments I went down the path of reading about Zizians (already vaguely knew about rationalism and MIRI and that insanity). The intelligent mind truly can go to some insane places. What the fuck is this shit

      just a small tragic cult

how is it any different to maga and the crazy shit trump has said?

the only difference is newspapers say that zizians are nuts and belong in jail, papers still pretend trump is a sane leader

I thought to just download my OneDrive files onto my computer, back them up and unlink my pc so it couldn’t fill that storage back up again. Well downloading my stuff isn’t working. They download as zip files that only contain error and .txt.

I’m also now being told I can’t send or receive emails because I’m over storage and have to pay for more - recurring subscription of course.

It’s so very convenient that they force your files onto their cloud (removing them from your computer) and then somehow the process of getting them back is obstructive. Really slimy.

I may end up having to pay to get to the task later but this is making me seriously reconsider Windows.

Microsoft prey on fear uncertainty and doubt. Also on compatibility between organisations. The only reason I don’t walk for Linux is 1. I want to make sure I have everything first and 2. because I’m not confident of being able to reliably make everything work as I need it to.

@melbaboutown @YarraByte in the process of DeGoogling and it’s similar. Though so far I’m only partway through Photos. It was always the intention to bait and switch and capture financially once the difficulty of leaving became extreme. I was always aware of Facebook which seemed blatant to me: Google and M$ actually more subtle.

Agreed… We are the product. But Meta are now doing things I never could have imagined when I signed up. They scraped all of the user data and pictures for AI and Australian users didn’t get to opt out.

Agreed about Microsoft being more subtle. It kind of crept up on me.

Oh man… I want to de google but I’m absolutely drowning at the moment and barely managing life admin let alone a mammoth task like that.

I still have to go through my Facebook to make sure I get everything before I deactivate or delete with the under 16 ban (because I’m not giving Meta or other platforms my id). And because the download doesn’t work I have to do it manually.

My respect goes out to people who are able to stay on top of all this

@melbaboutown I am glad I don’t have to think about FB as have never given them my data. I need to anonymise on several services to at least try and thwart the AI feeding frenzy, though I’m rarely active anywhere except on Fedi these days. But I need to move Gmail as well. It’s more than many people are even equipped to try, sadly.

Yeah I regret. And it’s probably more than I’ll ever be able to attempt.

Right now I just need to get my stuff backed up to physical media in time and make sure I can continue to use my main email.

@melbaboutown yeah when you realise “the cloud” is just other people’s computers and “free” SM & other lockin has always been designed from the outset to bait & switch and basically enslave you it makes you realise the real costs of not being free and open. I remember when I genuinely believed Google was a force for good.

What was the size of the zip file that you downloaded?

Try downloading a smaller directory or file and see if you can open it.

I made repeated attempts so - 69kb, then 1.2kb. Probably too large.

Some other guy was complaining about this so I began manually downloading - and then saw that I could ctrl-a and copy the contents of the OneDrive folder to paste it into a new folder. Once I think I have everything I’m unlinking.

Ok, not sure how you’re doing it but if you’re able to get your files back that way then that’s fine.

If using the zip method you need to use smaller sizes like maybe 1gig but test it out first and make sure it works.

Not sure what your arrangement is, but in windows with one drive, in explorer you can select the files and folders you want, right click, and select ‘always keep on this device”. This means you have a local copy in addition to the onedrive copy.

Full immersion baptism is a thing. Mostly for adults converting. Refer St John the Baptist. Rinse is the same only different. Refer vegetables and washing machines. Then there’s the tricky question of the mikveh.

OMG it literally is the main aspect of the innies.

Psychological (and physical at times) torture .

The concept of working for the sake of working and not really knowing what you do or why is very disturbing.

or whether or not people are suffering if they can’t consciously remember the torture

the lack of thought and lack of moral principles of commenters astounds me sometimes , it’s like people need things spelled out

              Yes, it’s wrong

              no, they didn’t give consent

you can’t give consent to torture anyway

in that moment that person, that soul who suffers, has rights, it doesn’t matter if they can’t remember later
