They’re not thinking. They’re feeling. It’s a world of emotions.

All of us do that sometimes. Unfortunately, some people do it when stakes are high like elections, rather than fairly harmless emotional choices like “I want the 1d12 sword instead of 2d6 because the 12 feels bigger”

Does matter either way. You make China pay for the tariff, they just add the tariff to the sale of the product.

The item is $100 and there is a $100 tariff? Well, now they selling it at $200.

Doesn’t matter who the bill goes to, the consumer always end up footing the bill. The only winner is the US government (whose money will quickly find its way into some rich people’s pockets)

      in their right mind

First we’ll have to discuss this bar you’ve put on them. I know a lot of people who believed it but I’m not sure I have a strong case to defend their mind.

Anyone who listened to Trump and Vance explain them basically. For months they’ve been straight up lying to their voters that if they put a tariff on China, then China would have to pay to ship their products to the US. How they’re going to bring in all this money from China and the rest of the countries that had been supposedly “screwing us” in trade.

And all those tarrifs are to even trade out. But also to allow us to eliminate the income tax! Just don’t ask about how we’re going to make up for all of the money taxes bring in, or any of it once trade evens out and we don’t need the tariffs anymore.

It all makes perfect sense, you see. /s

The same people who were convinced Mexico would pay for the wall. At least until it became undeniable that we were paying for it, at which point they instead claimed that they always believed we’d be the ones to pay, and that it was a necessary sacrifice. The same thing they’re starting to do for this.

That’s the thing - his supporters have no idea what’s going on, but they don’t want to lose face by admitting it, so they’re constantly just pretending that whatever is happening is part of the plan, and make up whatever reasoning they have to in order to justify it. We’re a country of naked emperors pretending we’re wearing clothes.
