Sec. 4. Using National Security Assets for Law and Order. (a) Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security and the heads of agencies as appropriate, shall increase the provision of excess military and national security assets in local jurisdictions to assist State and local law enforcement. (b) Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Attorney General, shall determine how military and national security assets, training, non-lethal capabilities, and personnel can most effectively be utilized to prevent crime.

Sec. 5. Holding State and Local Officials Accountable. The Attorney General shall pursue all necessary legal remedies and enforcement measures to enforce the rights of Americans impacted by crime and shall prioritize prosecution of any applicable violations of Federal criminal law with respect to State and local jurisdictions whose officials: (a) willfully and unlawfully direct the obstruction of criminal law, including by directly and unlawfully prohibiting law enforcement officers from carrying out duties necessary for public safety and law enforcement; or
(b) unlawfully engage in discrimination or civil-rights violations under the guise of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” initiatives that restrict law enforcement activity or endanger citizens.

Martial law is an actual thing and we are not officially under it.

The EO sucks and shouldn’t be a thing, but don’t pretend it’s something that it’s not because that softens people’s reaction when it really happens

Look regardless of what you think about the words. This is important information to share that is going to have very real and severe consequences for those that are vulnerable to it. I did not see this EO being discussed anywhere and so I shared it here.

If you think you have a better method for disseminating the message please do. I don’t care about being the one to do it. So go ahead and repost this with what you think would be the more appropriate title.

But please don’t diminish the impact of this declaration by the Trump administration in the process. They’ve skated in the grey areas and abused the privilege of plausibility deniability. And don’t sabotage those that are trying to fight it.

If you cared to share correct and accurate info, you would start by fixing the title of your post. But you’ve just stated above that you can’t be bothered. That’s fucked up, homie.

Is this one of those “it’s not ackchually Fascism” type arguments where we argue about semantics while people get thrown into camps?

This morning my coworker was late to work after the bus was stopped for half an hour for what appeared to be a raid on a building by people in full military fatigues with military vehicles present.

It’s one of those things where words have meaning, and you’re using words in a way that misrepresents reality…

        Commonly referred to as “misinformation”

Well, I guess when videos start coming out of the military deployed along with the cops raiding rounding up local officieals and dissidents throwing them into non descript detention camps I can comfort myself by saying that it’s not really martial law, and that I was just overreacting and spreading fake news. Thank you.

Appreciate that. I was skimming through the next and didn’t specifically see the words “martial law” anywhere. It’s another baseless series of actions that will undermine the rights of people everywhere, but it’s not Martial Law yet

Yep, martial law is a huge step and likely what would proceed an actual civil war.

This sucks, but it’s not really new. The National Guard has done all of these things before, under administrations from both parties.

It’s important people understand it and the context of likely being used to abduct people without due process and deport them.

But that’s different than martial law.

And people need to be informed about what’s actually happening

You’re correct, this isn’t martial law. It actually appears to be the establishment of a gestapo for Trump to go after anyone he deems to have violated his law or stopped him from arresting those who have committed “crimes.”

No, this is using the national guard to assist law enforcement…

Something pretty much every president has done.

The difference is usually states/cities request it, this is trump saying he’s going to do it, and it’s vauge enough that it also likely includes working with ICE in no knock raids where targets get zero due process.

Crying wolf makes it more likely people under-react when/if it does happen.

        That’s why words matter.
