That’s when I got my job as a assistant sysadmin and only-tier tech support of a residential ISP. I swear, winsock is the source of the whole “Have you tried turning it off…?” trope.
I fondly remember the time on the net before that.

Hehe, every new tech community goes through that, when it stops being mostly autistic people and becomes mainstream. We pave the way to make sure it’s safe. Then go hide in our little place of that community and wait for “the next thing” that isn’t good enough for normal people yet.
Autistic people? You mean nerds?
In the sense that a venn diagram of “nerds” and people with Autism is nearly a circle, yes.
You can never back, but we sure made some great memories.
