"We are really really REALLY sorry we lied and misled you for years.

    Please don’t have us arrested.

Please keep watching and generating revenue for shareholders

Again, very sorry for the propaganda"

Actually, I would need some verification that this is real. I can’t imagine someone having the audacity to admit this.

Journalistic integrity from a previously dictator owned news station? In 2026?!

Maybe the world isnt entirely unsalvageable

Unless all the people sitting there are fired you are guaranteed they will just parrot whatever they’re supposed to parrot next.

      So much for the “news”

Integrity? All they have done is recognize that the side they had wholeheartedly supported for decades is on the way out, and they are sucking up to the people who are going to assume power.

They are absolutely unfit to hold positions of such influence, and undeserving of comfortable lives and salaries. They were collaborators with a right-wing regime and cannot be trusted.

True. In my eyes it’s a step in the right direction. One that I haven’t seen from any other news corp worldwide.

At the very least it’s an admission that the previous government had such tight control over them that they couldn’t fight against it without being entirely shut down, much in the same way news corps with professional standards on reporting are shut down and drowned out in other countries.

So they’re only option was to shovel out government propaganda and lick the boots, was it?

I don’t give them a pass just because they were afraid to lose their cushy jobs.

No, their options were capitulate or be replaced by someone more willing to bend the knee.

I’m not giving them a free pass, I’m being realistic.

If you were the boss of the news corp would you rather be responsible for the unemployment and potential death or harassment of your staff, or wait for the fall of a dictatorship and make sure the people you employ can survive?

Once again, hate that I have to clarify, but I am NOT giving them a pass for spreading propaganda, I am glad that they now have both the ability and integrity to say “We were used by the government to spread propaganda, and we apologise”

Which isn’t something I could ever imagine the news corps of the western world doing.

It’s a step in the right direction, much like the first step to sobriety, it doesn’t make the harm an addict committed while abusing substances right, but it shows a willingness to become better.
