I’m gonna do the “please take one” bowl this year and pretend I’m not home. I’ll start with an empty bowl, so the kids will think that some asshole came before them and took all the candy.
Lucky, nobody trick or treats at my neighborhood. I set up bowl with cool flickering lantern lights and decorations, and not a single trick or treater came by :( I only know because I had a doorbell camera set up and all I saw was a group of kids who were presumably walking back home from the other neighborhoods, and they were all just laughing at the music I had playing on loop (spooky scary skeletons) and man, it hurt me so much that I never celebrated since.
I was told they all do Trunk or Treating or go to the rich neighborhoods nowadays. It really is depressing Halloween isn’t as big as when I grew up. I dont understand it. As a kid we’d go to every neighborhood to maximize our candy profits. I just miss it :(
I will say, as a poor kid I went to a rich neighborhood for Halloween once with this rich kid I was forced to be friends with (my parents and his parents were friends idfk), and maaaaaaaan I’m sorry but it was better by a mile. First (and only) time I saw a full size candy bar given out for halloween. And this was back when you’d usually stay in your own hood and we were trained NOT to take candy from stranger’s cars no less, I can only imagine now!
I guess my point is “I get going into richer or ‘still poor but more dense than yours’ neighborhoods to maximize candy profit, but not at the expense of going full trunk or treat and ruining the holiday, strike a balance.”
