      The temptation is there, but the fear of giving the fascist what the want in excuses. In addition, it can feel not worth it as trading your life, your families life, in return for just one goon is not enough to make the sacrifice worthwhile.

      Lastly, fear of violent revolution allowing worse groups to come to power in aftermath.

      i think most people who would do that are inclined to agree with their ends and means. those of us who don’t are pretty cognizant that any organized violent resistance would kick off the civil war, and most of those are unwilling to open that particular pandoran box until we’ve exhausted the electoral option, double especially so since there is no organized state-level resistance.

        I’m not even confident it would kick off a civil war, because that requires an actual opposition with militant capacity and intent. More like it would fast track the fascist one party takeover under the “pressure” of a “radical leftist insurgency.”

        Nobody talks about the “German Civil War” before the Nazis secured power, even though there were street brawls and assassinations associated with the before years.

          i think- or maybe i’m wishing- that there’d be a more coherent resistance. if i’m being honest about the available evidence though, that doesn’t seem actually very likely.
