The constitution still claims that they’re China, but they can’t change that claim in the constitution because China doesn’t want them to. China doesn’t want Taiwan to exist as a independent country, and changing that in the constitution would very likely provoke military attack from China.

What the president and their diplomats have been doing these years, is just avoiding claming either way, but acting like they are indeed an independent country named Taiwan.

Nonsensical, peaceful reunification would imply they would chose it. China denies they are even separate.

DW is German tax funded media. They are mostly considered unbiased, but if they had a bias, it likely wouldn’t be pro China.

I have friends in Taiwan, and my impression is also mostly that they want to stay independent, though they in particular don’t necessarily love the current government. Also, funnily enough, the currently more pro China party are the KMT, who where the ones in power during the dictatorship. They’re also the more right-wing/conservative of the two big parties.

Yeah I’m not a big fan of lifetime appointments either. Are you saying Dw is lying about what he said or that he himself is lying?

Do you think it makes more sense strategically to militarily invade a country dependent on the US? Or wait until the US continues to destroy its hard and soft power on the world stage and the let peaceful reunification be the best option for the people of Taiwan?

How long has western media been saying China is going to invade Taiwan any day now? Do you still think there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?

Im saying since 2016 I dont not traverse the generic news sites. The only way Im paying attention is if they have affiliation with the ap and are advertised as such. Ill read breaking stuff but remain skeptical.

My only point is that the pursuer cant claim peaceful reunification when they are actively pursuing it. Peaceful, to me, would imply uninfluenced. I know that this definition is shaky but no more shaky than their claim of holding that position.

As long as you pay attention to what’s happening and not what they’re telling you is happening.

Time will tell which one of us was right.
