It’s minimal effort to learn, I could teach my 6 year old nephew hire to do it in 5 minutes. It means no ads and no monthly subscription.
But if you prefer to pay for the opertunity to watch ads and give money to a trump supporter then that’s your choice

I think the upnp app I use I paid about £2 for about 13 years ago, that’s about about one and half pence per month and falling. There’s free options available too.
Depends on what country you’re in. In America you could face legal consequences for torrenting without a VPN. Which does cost some money but it’s still far cheaper than paying for streaming services. Unless you’re taking HDD prices into account… I haven’t done the math again since those things quadrupled in price.

I get that it’s frustrating how crap the ads are, but there are super simple alternatives to get the content you want without worrying about ads.

Your opinion that to you it’s a lateral move is yours to have. Stating that the alternatives are objectively just as bad is factually incorrect. Unless you want to do a lot of goal post shifting from your original complaint about paramount plus. .
Option A (your current solution) you download and learn to use an app, you pay money each month and have to watch, by your own account, a lot of ads to get the content you want. Some of your money goes to allies of Trump every month (up to you if that last part is a positive or negative). It’s legal, some people say it’s immoral.
Option B (pirating + casting to TV) you download and learn to use two apps, you download the content you want, pay once for an app if you feel like to supper the developers. You’re not giving money every month to Trump alies (up to you if that last part is a positive or negative). It’s mildly illegal and some people say it’s immoral.
Option C you don’t get to watch the content you want. No legal or morality issues but you miss out on stuff you were interested in.
