Hear me out. You’re right to exist in anyway that you find fitting. And that applies to every one American. And you should definitely defend your right to do so. However it’s very depressing and frustrating that the side that is supposed to be all-inclusive does nothing but bash and try to destroy you emotionally because your ideals don’t perfectly line up with theirs. IMO that’s a good reason why conservatives are at the top right now. They don’t refuse a person because they have a slight opposing view (I’m excluding religious conservatives because fuck them). Regardless of Jan 6th. It was assumed that around 80K heads could be counted at the protest but only around 2k made it into the Capitol. And yet the liberal and democrat side claim that our total American freedoms are being removed. Lemmy as a fediverse is mainly used as political propaganda regardless of what side you think is right or what the original purpose of Lemmy was supposed to be. And then anything remotely in the realm of politics (even a meme that uses a political figure that the majority of the fediverse opposes) is belittled, treated as a fight or a threat, and then respond accordingly (even though it’s unwarranted). A lot of the mods out there really do try to simply keep the peace, and I acknowledge all of those people that support civil disagreement (you all are the ones that really make Lemmy). However, as the fediverse grows, more ideas and influence are going to take hold. Many communities would prefer to alienate and belitle an opposing view just because it’s different from their view. If you find yourself like that, you aren’t helping progress. It doesn’t matter what side you’re on in that case. You’re part of the problem
No caveat. Just observations that I am pointing out. And I’m from US where there are some significant social and political issues going on that I’d like to address. If you are from another country and you feel other social issues need to be addresses depending on your country and region, then do what I did. More voices on a single issue is more ears hearing about the issue
by caveat i mean: there must be situations where your existence might become an existential threat to another’s - in which case it is not so simple as an absolute. we put the cart in front of the horse by relying on ideologies handed to us without scrutinizing them… speak up, yes- but that’s what your opponents are doing when they vehemently disagree with you… hedge these outcomes by knowing better the complexities that underly your claims. godspeed
