In ratio we imprison the most people in the world and our prisons are notriously inhumane. If you don’t go to prison then the fines and medical bills will cripple a person.

We have instances of protestors sitting on the ground in unison while getting pepper sprayed to the face or even burned with hot gas canisters. Even when our police use rubber bullets they aim for the face. I think the usa is more fascist than france and that makes it very difficult to fight back.
