I did that almost a year ago because I delayed upgrading my iphone to the new version for like 2 years (I hate being on iphone), but then there was a major exploit for which the only fix on new enough devices was upgrading, so I ended up with 2 years worth of changes all at once, and among all the other user-hostile changes, suddenly autocorrect was entirely unusable and every single message was wrong multiple times. You aren’t imagining it, and it definitely isn’t you, autocorrect is absolutely that bad these days.
Once it’s gone, you’ll have this weird transitional period where you consider turning it back on because I no longer gets capitalized without intentional effort, and all sorts of other mildly annoying things.
Don’t go back; once you get used to the new flow, you’ll find yourself so much happier at not having your message changed without consent. Those red spellcheck squiggles suddenly have value again, but fyi, they probably won’t actually show up most of the time without tapping around different places in your message to force it out of sentence mode or whatever it is that suppresses them.

I think the first hit caused her a serious shock that she didn’t properly recover from before trying to flee her embarrassment, possibly also a broken nose or other injury.
