Despite the typical moaning from this community any time Android changes anything, this is a good thing. This will combat a new scam tactic that’s been going around where scammers call their target, pretending to be their bank or somebody else the mark would be doing business with, and ask the victim to install a “security update” to their app. They get the victim to install a look-alike app, and then have all their data and money stolen. YOU probably won’t ever fall for such a scam. But your grandma absolutely will.

Yeah, Google was really bad about making these things clear to people. It’s insane to me how an advertising company could be so terrible about advertising the benefits of their own product. Phil Harrison is a fuckin’ gaming Grim Reaper.

The subscription was optional. If you bought a game on Stadia, you could play that game whenever you wanted.

Google did refund these purchases when it shut down Stadia, and this was absolutely the right call, but it is also befuddling because, if they had been planning on doing this anyway, they could have told everyone at the beginning and made people a lot less wary of spending money on Stadia!

They did say that early on. It was in the ToS from Day 1 that in the event of a shutdown, Google would either distribute offline versions of the games to you, or that they would refund you.

As he should. I think people forget that posting the full text of an article opens up the instance admins to legal issues. News articles are copyrighted; just because it’s easy to copy and paste doesn’t mean it’s legal to do so, and you put your instance at risk by doing it. The mod also doesn’t seem that angry; looks like maybe OP is adding their own spin here.
