My personal anti-suggestion is always the office. Too much cringe. I’ll watch compilations of Jim pranking Dwight on YouTube, but I can’t watch the show as a whole because of Michael.

boonhet@sopuli.xyzto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•and they have the fucking gall to call us "parasites"0·2 days agoIf you read the rest of my comment, I acknowledged that foreign capitalists are taking all the profit. The question is, what’s the solution? Because any local leadership in such a country, whether left or right wing, is likely to be corrupt and serving their own interests over that of the people.

boonhet@sopuli.xyzto Programming@programming.dev•Revisiting Knuth's 'Premature Optimization' Paper6·2 days agoExactly. A 10% decrease in run time for a method is a small optimization most of the time, but whether or not it’s premature depends on whether the optimization has other consequences. Maybe you lose functionality in some edge cases, or maybe it’s actually 10x slower in some edge case. Maybe what you thought was a bit faster, is actually slower in most cases. That’s why you measure when you’re optimizing.
Maybe you took 3 hours of profiling and made a loop 10% faster but you could have trivially rewritten it to run log n times instead of n times…
boonhet@sopuli.xyzto United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Students in England now graduate with average debt of £53,000, data showsEnglish0·2 days agoHow’s that possible? Genuinely wondering, I’m from a country with free uni which is still cheap ish if you don’t qualify for free for some reason. I understand the concepts of tuition and loans, I’m just wondering how the loan ends up so far underwater if you’ve been paying.
boonhet@sopuli.xyzto Cooking @lemmy.world•[Request] looking for a reliable/trustworthy site or resource to shop for cookware.0·2 days agoI have no experience of my own, but at least in my country, IKEA offers a 15 year warranty on their stainless steel cookware, except the ones with nonstick coating (which isn’t nearly as durable). It’s fairly affordable too. I’m thinking of replacing some nonstick pans of mine with their stainless steel offerings, but haven’t yet pulled the trigger.
I figured it might be interesting to add here because it’s one of the few companies that sells in most of the western world and I believe the lineup is similar everywhere. If anyone has experience with their cookware, I’d be happy to hear about it.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. I now feel sad that I may never.

That’s what the smarter ones do, anyway.
boonhet@sopuli.xyzto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•and they have the fucking gall to call us "parasites"0·2 days agoWell, obviously. But then we run into the whole issue of trade. If there’s no free trade, the people in those areas would have nobody to sell goods to, which is developing their economies. But under free trade, foreign capital exploits them.
In a way, it’s up to their own governments to protect their people from foreign capitalists. We here in the west/north/whatever can’t force that. But that’s easier said than done in a lot of places. They need to have their own money to build their own nations, but where do you get said money into your country unless you have oil, diamonds or other expensive resources that also attract bloodsuckers?
I suspect that the only workable solution is some sort of international fund that provides resources to poor nations and everyone pays into it. Kind of like here in the EU - richer countries pay more than they receive in benefits, but since it builds up the strength of the EU, they still end up benefiting. Thing is, acceptance into EU requires meeting some standards. Said global fund would also need to have standards for the nations they help - to make sure it’s not all wasted on corrupt warlords in the government. But then who helps the people in those countries?
It’s honestly an issue nobody wants to think about, myself included. How do you help people in those places? How do you force education and wealth on a backwards ass country?
They stock really good røkt laks. Used to know someone who worked in Norway and used to bring it sometimes.
I mean Britain was kind of a viking colony once upon a time lol
boonhet@sopuli.xyzto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•and they have the fucking gall to call us "parasites"0·3 days agoI do still support some aspects of capitalism and the free market. I’m of the opinion that society should guarantee everyone the basics and then those who want can build extra wealth for all I care. Just not through outright exploitation.
I don’t know if there’s a specific label for my beliefs, as I’m not too into political theory.

I think it’s a cool voice but I wouldn’t want to watch his movies all the time, it gets tiresome. I do like some of the movies though.
I think it’s literally just his voice that people hate lol
boonhet@sopuli.xyzto solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•and they have the fucking gall to call us "parasites"0·4 days agoI’m enough of a socdem that the hexbear types ban me at first sight when I comment in their communities, but I’m still of the opinion that everyone is entitled to have A home. Something that is reasonably sized given the location, and there may be compromises in location itself (not everyone is going to fit in Manhattan after all). So an apartment in NYC or a single family home in flyover states somewhere. This is just using the US as an example because it’s so culturally dominant, I think everyone knows what NYC is like. Everyone should be able to live in a home that affords them basic human dignity.
Now rich people can still have their mansions or whatever, but they’ll have to pay for the privilege. The rest of us, if content with the aforementioned social housing, wouldn’t have to pay. There would still be premium developments. Premium apartments or houses to rent or buy. But there would be no more profiting off the working class’s basic need for shelter.

No, the drivers aren’t well paid here either.
The one time food did not arrive, it was driver error (similar buildings on one lot) and we contacted the service, got a new order for free (the old one would’ve been cold already)

It’s going to be at least as difficult as flashing a custom rom, but likely even more so, as there might not be a ready-made build. Definitely something to experiment with on a secondary phone. PostmarketOS is your best bet, here are others that support Plasma Mobile.
Man I had existential dread at like 3 or 4 when I started wondering what happens after death and what the meaning of this existence is if it’s limited to one lifetime… I’m not even bullshitting.
