  • Yeah, I have some compassion for kids who are on that path, because I was there when I was a kid, though not as bad as your friend. Thankfully, I had some friends who cared enough to pull me aside and tell me how I was being a fuck head and to be better.

A lot of people have shitty parents who pass on their toxicity to their kids, who have to actively repair the damage done to them before they knew how bad that behavior was. I saw a comment from @wopalopa@lemmy.world the other day that really stuck with me, because it really resonated with my experience:

its not your fault for turning that way. but its your fault for keeping that way.

  • I’m other words, when has saying, “be better” ever persuaded anyone?

When the other person respects your opinion of them.

I’ve had a couple instances in my life where a friend has pulled me aside, explained how I’m being an asshole and told me to be better. Honestly, that has done more to unfuck the person I am than just about anything I can think of. Because I actually care what those close to me think, and don’t want to push them away with my character flaws. Same reason I go to therapy, my therapist just knows how to word it better.

  • Strong/weak people of any gender shouldn’t hit other people. But if you choose to start a fight, don’t be surprised when the other person decides to play along.

“Start shit, get hit” is a phrase to live by, because you can’t assume someone is going to take your abuse without giving a little back.

  • I had a FWB years ago who would do that up until the day where I wasn’t able to stop the response reflex and punched her right in the tit. Felt kinda bad since it wasn’t exactly consensual, but we did worse than that regularly, so it wasn’t a big deal.

She’d still do it periodically cuz she liked getting punched in the tit, but that was at least negotiated 🤣

  • I’d replace annoyed for irritated, but otherwise 100% accurate.

I’ve always said that marriage is about finding that one person you want to annoy for the rest of your life. And more recently, that polyamory is about finding the people you want to annoy for as long as it lasts. So far, both are working out wonderfully.

  • If you bothered to read the comment you responded to, the other commentor pointed out that some of the people doing this are your own fucking countrymen.

Do we get to blame Canada for their hand in this? Or are we smart enough to see that the rich are making us fight amongst ourselves because it’s easier for people like you to rail against the bad outsider than to realize that this is being driven by a multinational group of the ultra wealthy bent on enacting techno-feudalism via attacks on the elections of any country needed?

  • As for what you mentioned about jumping to the front of a transplant queue, yes that’s obviously selfish and wrong, if he did indeed do that.

He used his wealth to be able to get a liver from Tennessee despite being from California because his wealth let him sign up to every list since he could be anywhere at a moments notice. Any article you see will defend the move because He WaS tHe SiCkEsT pErSoN oN tHe LiSt, which completely papers over the fact that his wealth let his health status take a liver from someone more deserving who didn’t piss away their chance at a healthy prognosis to self treat with fruit instead of listening to real medical professionals.

Bottom line in my mind is that he stole that liver from someone who could have actually used it.

  • It was absolutely A, jobs was a fucking weirdo.

Probably why he died of a curable pancreatic cancer, the selfish fuck chose to treat cancer with fruit and not showering instead of proper medicine, then hopped in the front of a transplant line and got himself a fresh new liver before he died of his cancer. But, before he died he graced us with a quote we could see in the news today:

“In addition, during the past week, I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.”

  • Maybe it would help if I understood what you meant by ruined?

Social impact (both negative attention from peers, along with recurring trauma of seeing your abuser get away with minimal punishment), emotional trauma, swlf-harm, loss of ability to trust (especially bad when it was someone you knew and thought was safe), and even impacts to job/school due to the event, to name a handful I’ve witnessed.

Are you talking overall or only focusing on the immediate future?

Sorry, I thought my parenthetical made it clear I was talking about the immediate future
