  • Cruz’s office alleged that the FCC program shifts control of Internet access from parents to schools and thus “heightens the risk of censoring kids’ exposure to conservative viewpoints.”

Fuckwad trying to water down what the meaning of censorship is. More access to information is not censorship. Not allowing your child to hear any viewpoints beside your own or to learn any information that may be inconvenient to your rhetoric is censorship. Even if his argument is that the school can block stuff like conservative political websites and news outlets, sure, they could. Doubtful they would without good cause, but sure they could. They could also block progressive sites too. But the premise of the program is that these kids already do not have access to the internet at all outside of school currently, meaning they already can’t access those sites. Giving them more access does not censor anything.

  • Coworkers bought and tried it today. I think the crackers give a bit of texture and saltiness to the sweet ice cream. My coworkers said it wasn’t bad, kind of tastes like salted pumpkin spice. Which makes sense because skyline chili isn’t real chili. I have long called it pumpkin spice meat sauce (very much not a fan, myself). And apparently the ice cream is just made with the spices from the chili. I looked up the nutrition facts and in addition to the normal ice cream ingredients, it only lists crackers and “spices”, not like meat and tomato. So it’ll have clove, cinnamon, all-spice, and probably a couple other flavors in there that skyline inexplicably puts in their chili. That honestly sounds pretty good on paper for ice cream. Now that is unless the also put chili powder or cumin in there… that would probably get pretty weird pretty fast.

  • Yes, and you can’t divorce the fact that she profits from all official media associated with the Harry Potter and paying for said media inescapable enriches her more. However, it is also true that the team that made this game did an amazing job of a creating a hogwarts/ Wizarding world that feels real and amazing, that they do not support her bigotry, and that they included a non-token well-respected open trans character who gets to share her story as part of the main quest line of the game. Supporting the game is not, in itself, support of trans bigotry. It’s complicated.

  • Infinite options does not mean all options.

Right, as you said the natural numbers is an infinite set but it doesn’t contain fractional numbers between adjacent natural numbers. The set of natural numbers also doesn’t contain letters, or colors, or varieties of geese. You can even add other constraints to the set and still have an infinite set that contains even fewer possible values, like you could have the set of all natural numbers that don’t contain the digit 3.

People make the mistake of thinking that an infinite set of universes means that there is every conceivable version of a universe out there, but that’s not the case. Murphy’s law says that anything that can happen will happen, but that means things are still constrained by what can happen. Reality is constrained by consistent logic, the most basic of which is the identity law, p = p. It is a contradiction for both p and ~p to be true, a violation of reality. So if the multiverse is a reality, it is a single reality that is self consistent, meaning there is no Universe in the multiverse for which there doesn’t exist a multiverse.

  • No due process, no evidence, no documentation, no oversight, no warrants, no probable cause… this is your law and order, Republicans?

There is zero chance that in rushing to “deport” these people that they get everything right. They are going to (if they haven’t already) kidnap American citizens and kick them from the country along with the undocumented people. Moreover, they dumped all of those people in the same place, Venezuela. There is also zero chance that all of those undocumented people were from Venezuela. They don’t give a fuck. They’ll throw the baby out with the bath water, and they will strand people thousands of miles away from their homes, their countries of origin, and without any resources to manage in a country that they constantly demonize.

As long as they’re not here anymore, nothing else matters to them. People voted for this. It makes me fucking sick.

  • No, you fabricated a sentiment that I neither expressed nor agree with. I did not “equate the lease of Hong Kong […] with the genocide of Palestine.”

I used, among other examples, “Liberate Hong Kong” as a thing that would likely be censored by Rednote. I was making this statement as a rebuttal to OP’s implication that Tik Tok censors things but Rednote does not. I was then accused of calling for violence by the call to liberate Hong Kong, and that supposed fact was being used to justify hypothetical censorship of that statement. I then said that that statement was AT MOST as much a call for violence as “Free Palestine” (a sentiment that I wholeheartedly support, btw), but that it really didn’t need to be a call for violence at all as there is currently no active violence in that conflict and it could be resolved diplomatically. Then YOU came and accused me saying that the situation in Hong Kong was exactly the same as the genocide in Palestine when I very explicitly said that they are not the same. You didn’t bother reading or comprehending what you read and then you got butthurt that I did respect your analysis. Have I missed anything?

  • I’m genuinely trying, but I can’t follow your meaning. I dont think we disagree as much as you think we do. Though, I’m not sure because I cant quite parse what you are arguing.

What I can follow though is that you have a problem with me specifically saying “Free Hong Kong” for whatever reason. Whatever you think of the merits of the sentiment of freeing Hong Kong, or of me saying so as a westerner, is entirely beside the point I was making about censorship. It have no intention of arguing geopolitics or pretending that it is my area of expertise. It is a comparable statement to “Free Palestine” in so far as it supports the sovereignty of a smaller nation being controlled (or worse) by a larger nation. One is apparently censored by Tik Tok, the other would be censored by Rednote. I think censoring either is wrong.

  • Well as for point 1, there is, at most, equal as much call for violence in the phrase “Free Palestine” as in “Liberate Hong Kong”, so those are actually decent comparisons of calls to action. Except really, as Hong Kong is not in open war with China, there really is no need for violence. China just has to give up its false claim to it. That’s even more true with Taiwanese Independence. That requires no violence at all. China is the source of the threatened violence in that case, and they simply need to recognize and respect Taiwan’s Independence from them.

As for your point number 2, I assume this is in reference to Tiananmen Square? First of all, you need to look up the definition of libel. “Remember Tiananmen Square 1989” does not make any claims of fact, true or not, so there is no way that that statement itself is libel. Second, I’ll state outright that the massacre that occurred on June 4th 1989 is a fact, and you can kiss my ass if you are claiming otherwise. True statements, btw, are also not libelous.

And as for point 3, really? I’m racist to repeat a childish meme about an authoritarian leader that his own Chinese citizens came up with? That shit started on the Chinese internet, my guy, not in the west. You have got an uphill battle if you want to claim that the Chinese people are racist against Chinese people. Dumbass.
