point being that one, or even 100000 people going full eco conscious would barely make a dent; while placing some barriers over corporations would hopefully reduce emissions substantially without sacrificing consumer convenience.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds shares his thoughts on Anti-AI coding rules
41·1 day agoagreed, a tool that you have to actively fight to do something well is a garbage tool. it’s like trying to cut some chicken meat with a knife that’s magnetically drawn to living beings. You can make some nice diced chicken with it, but it is way more likely that you’ll slip up and cut off your finger than with an actual knife.
regardless of the original intention, the purpose of generative “AI” is to become a manager that’s out of touch with the actual creation process, so at best no one will know how something works, at worst no one will be able to fix it if it breaks.
it’s one of the “official” ones being supported by lemmy developers, otherwise i don’t really feel the difference. anything is better over the shithole that was reddit.
i guess there’s more marxists on .ml, but i don’t read the instance the comment is from on purpose; that’s irrelevant to me.

1·2 days agounfortunately. I suspect quitting EU would make it even worse, we have our own problems with far right, borderline authoritarian movements on the national level. UK started this garbage after brexit.

i personally don’t care about posting opinions on an admin account, but they seem to be right. suspect it’s to do with living on the same instance.

i wouldn’t feel bad about your carbon footprint when your local corporation exceeds that trillion fold. regulation is by far the best way, not consumer choice. go
harassinform your local and national representatives about how climate change is bad and you care about it, and kindly ask them to regulate their #1 polluters.

0·3 days agowe hope that this is temporary and fascist von leyen and her party will be gone soon. unfortunately, the EU is the only thing that prevents superpowers from steamrolling the entire continent. yes, if push comes to shove it will probably yield but apparently they don’t want to risk it, at least for now.

it’s not the best but basically anything is an upgrade over chrome

i am of course, talking in general, but many products can be made more sustainably without sacrificing quality, the method of looking for the most cost-effective way; while good for corporations, it is pretty wasteful.
preferably both policy, and consumer consciousness. starting with anything that’s single use for no reason, society forgot that recycling is third in the hierarchy, below reducing and reusing. wouldn’t it be nice if i could just buy ice cream and put it into a tub that i brought from home instead of having 10 identical, perfectly good plastic tubs that are to be thrown into trash? generally there’s too much plastic wrapping for products.
