And more games were added in 2025 than in 2024. This is a weird metric to panic over.
*For general information, here’s a chart from SteamDB: https://lemmy.ca/pictrs/image/b1600c7c-79d3-48c8-8121-95f2bad75d0f.png (For context, Greenlight became a thing in 2012, and Steam Direct started in 2017)
the new release calendar thing is real neat. i probably bought more games in the past few months than i did all last year, and i can’t think of any that were stinkers!
“already”
we are halfway through october.
Yes, thus the already. Theres still 2.5 months to go.
Doesn’t seem that bad to me. I only buy games I want to play.
ooh nooo people are making games whatever should we dooo
I mean, it’s midway through October. That’s only a 12% increase. It’s the increase actually all garbage out is some of that growth just normal expansion of the platform?
Also, there are a lot of unemployed tech workers and game devs out there from years of constant layoffs.
I don’t want to blame all of this on vibe coded slop ware.
Bring back green light, or whatever it was called.
I was much more happier when there were only a few dozen new games on Steam. When I am looking for games then quality is more important than quantity.
I don’t mind the platform being open to allow everyone to publish games. There might be lot of bad games out there, yes, but it also brings more good games too. Instead limiting the publishing, we should (and if I say we, I mean mostly Steam) should make sure that games we want to buy or play are displayed mostly. The algorithm on Steam, communities, reviews, news media, and even advertisement does its thing. And it clearly works on Steam.
Are we doing asset flips again. Will a new Steam Cleaner emerge?
This is the worst thing about Steam. All the shovelware and slop.
They really should clean up the joint and place tighter entry barriers.
The whole slop coded games thing is the biggest reason why some people I know are starting to believe you should be required to have a revokable license to sell games. Slop code a game? License revoked and game cannot be sold for profit kinda deal.
Why are people like this.
Slop developers, Kotaku “journalists,” or both?
