No. Look at europe, now look back at the USA. US citizenry is among the weakest and most complacent on the planet. No national strike, and no other major action will take place unless something DRASTIC goes down.
Because of this, there’s a real danger that the frog just gets boiled, with no single outrage big enough, and then the citizenry looks back, now helpless as the time for action has been missed, and now it requires even more strength they don’t possess.
whisper~whisper “Ssshhh… You’re supposed to joke that it already did look like a family get together and by the looks of it, the next one too.”
Sorry, I was confused since my family get togethers are usually more crazy.
I’ve been having anxiety all month that there will be a sudden extreme event where Trump ends democracy for good. But it will probably be more gradual and less dramatic. I think I actually am kind of hoping for something sudden and dramatic to wake people up. What’s probably actually going to happen is worse: small, incremental steps to ending democracy. Either MAGA will win the midterms by quietly rigging them, or they’ll spend the next two months overturning the election results by claiming fruad
plus maga doesn’t have to be driving it – it’s been driven to this point for roughly a half century before maga started to exist.
Trump can’t win the midterms because he’s not on the ballot.
It’s all of the MAGA lapdogs that are on the chopping block.
Tbf, this is “shittyask.”
This is not the first, and won’t be the last time that I answer a question without noticing what community it was in.
I think America should do what they did 250 years ago: call in French reinforcements to fight for freedom
Also, the No Kings protests already look like a family get together
No because Americans are cowed by treats. No Kings is a joke and Americans are spineless.
Americans are not the French. I can’t see them protesting like the French until they get into a much more desperate place than they currently are. And Americans are in a worse position than the French.
France is smaller than Texas, and 20% of the population lives in the Paris metro area. About 3% of Americans live within a comparable distance to D.C. The logistics of getting that concentration of protestors in one place are just way more difficult in the US, everyone is so spread out. Not to mention the French get like a month of paid leave every year.
Wouldn’t the extra space make it harder for the oppressive forces of the state to control things here? We need decentralized protests.
Why would it? The oppressive forces of the state are pretty organized and hierarchical.
Decentralized protests are great, don’t get me wrong, but they don’t really compare to Parisian protest, especially since protest is a pretty notable element of Parisian culture.
Americans will respond by saying “Aww, maaaaaan, well, gotta go to work at the burger NFT factory. Better luck in two years!”
The last protest I went to was on a rainy Saturday, and the lady with the megaphone who organized it was literally singing Kumbaya and saying “love wins” over and over.
The no kings protests already look like a family get together.
