      MYSELF

I really could not stop laughing from earlier today (I think it was the Young Turks podcast I was listening to) when I heard them play some crazy bullshit from the State Media Television and someone was talking, in the context of little d destroying our economy with tariffs, about how this will be just more of “Biden’s economy” if things get painful due to what little d is doing to us.

I mean, seriously. I guess Biden made little d play his tariff game? But I’m sure there are a non-zero amount of redcaps that watch that shit and nod their heads to it.

It’s so incredible that everything was bidens fault day one of his presidency, but with Trump it’s the fault of the previous administration, and no body brings up this double standard at all. What a double standard.

Also, we all know that Trump can’t lower the price of eggs himself, just like biden couldn’t lower gas prices by himself. The fact that Trump and his ilk RAN on lowering grocery prices, especially eggs, is why we’re still talking about it and why a lot of Americans are upset. Now the right are calling us idiots and whiners for still talking about eggs while they are still going up, while the last 4 years nobody on that side could shut up about gas prices.

They put those ‘biden did this’ stickers on pumps until the final moments of his administration, I say we do the same to eggs.

Hm. Maybe I should buy Trump and Musk “We did that.” stickers, and add them to price tags while shopping? After all, they shut down the agencies meant to control bird flu, meat inspection, and so many other things…

Yeah, you hear that, PEASANTS? Shut the fuck up about the prices of things, and TAKE IT. Show some goddamn respect for your BETTERS.

Billionaires need some peace and quiet while they divvy up the country’s spoils amongst each other. Spoils from YOUR hard labor, by the way.

I’m as against trump as anyone else, but let’s say your candidate of choice was just put in power a month ago, would you expect new economic policies to have lowered the price of something nationwide? What’s the historical precedent for something like that? Biden releasing strategic reserve of oil comes to mind, and IIRC that didn’t put a dent in prices.

I worry that folks making a big deal out of this at this point in time are effectively being the same as the “I did this” Biden sticker folks, and idk about you but I sure thought they were asshats. Six months down the line, sure, hold him accountable for what he ran for. But idk how much economic impact a president has in two months time.

He’s already screwed the country in countless ways in a month. Why can’t he sign one of those executive orders for egg prices? Subsidize egg prices with all the money he’s supposedly saving? He’s already ignoring laws and courts, I have difficulty believing he is helpless.

My understanding is that he’s giving $400 million in direct subsidies to egg farmers, as part of a $1 billion package to USDA to increase the profits of egg producers.

I think my edit is probably closer to the mark

Why are egg prices high? A Bird flu epidemic that has run since 2022.

Trump’s DOGE fired several key USDA officials working on containing the bird flu outbreak. So that’s directly going to increase egg prices. It’s also going to reduce the efficiency of the only process that’s going to reduce egg prices - getting the bird flu epidemic under control.

To fill the shortfall, eggs would usually be imported from Canada. Trump started a trade war with Canada. Again that’s going to directly increase prices.

The price of eggs can’t be reduced by economic policy, only by agricultural policies. But we also know from his choice of Health Secretary how much Trump values vaccines.

On the other hand, Trump’s economic policies will increase the price of eggs and prolong the effects.

So Trump wandered into a house fire that was already burning, shot himself in the foot, then opened fire on firemen and paramedics attempting to rescue him. And the American consumer is meanwhile trapped upstairs.

These are all great reasons why egg prices are high, and will continue to be high.

All I’m asking for is precedent for a president to impact nationwide prices in 2 months time. What do you think is a reasonable window after which to assess a presidents impact on pricing of a national commodity?

If Trump had not campaigned on bringing down egg/grocery prices, I would agree with you.

In this case though, he promised to lower prices and that makes him a valid target for criticism since he promised he could do something about it and now obviously can’t.

I never said he wasn’t a valid target though. I’m asking what you think what a reasonable time frame a sitting president is expected to be given to fulfill a campaign promise of lowering the nationwide price of a commodity, and if that’s based on precedent.

I understand your point generally, and would agree with you under most circumstances. However, you’re talking about the guy who came out swinging from Tariff Town before he was even inaugurated, which has already made for negative economic movement. Under his watch (if you would even be so generous to say he’s “watching” at all), there’s already been all kinds of administrative chaos for the USA by wanton firings and other cuts and more EOs than you’ve ever seen in your lifetime.

So, yes, absolutely the country can blame Trump, at the very least for putting all his attention to causing chaos and not on the things he campaigned on. (Not that I ever believed he had any intention to ever pay attention to them.)

If I keep posting this every time there are egg related political news stories, maybe it’ll come true?

I put together a little short story about how I would like to see Donald Trump meet his demise. Drowning in eggs:

      The Eggsecution.

The once-proud leader, now stripped of title and dignity, stands in the center of the barren, concrete abyss. The abandoned Olympic swimming pool—thirty feet deep, dry as bone—has become their final stage. Above, the gathered masses stretch in every direction, a writhing sea of anticipation.

They do not jeer. They do not boo.

      They simply chant.

      “Eggs. Eggs. Eggs.”

It starts as a murmur, a low thrum of human voices vibrating in unison. Then it grows, swelling into a deafening roar that rattles windows, that shudders in the bones of every person present. A chant as ancient as it is absurd, a single-minded invocation of punishment.

The first egg arcs high overhead, tracing a lazy curve before splattering against the fallen leader’s shoulder. The yolk bursts, oozing down his baggy, ugly, now-useless suit. A streak of yellow, the first of many.

      Another egg. Then another.

      Then dozens.

The first impacts make them flinch, stagger—hands raised in a futile shield. But soon there are too many to dodge, too many to deflect. They curl inward as the sky rains viscous judgment. The chant never stops.

      “Eggs. Eggs. Eggs.”

Shells crack. Yolk drips. The scent of sulfur and shame thickens in the stagnant air. It coats their skin, their hair, their pride, turning them into something less than human. Something… egg-like.

At the top of the pit, a child—no older than seven—steps forward. They hold their egg with both hands, cradling it like something precious. Reverent. With a deliberate motion, they lob it downward. It strikes the leader square on the forehead, exploding with an almost musical plap. The crowd erupts into a fresh crescendo of cheers, but the chant never falters.

      “Eggs. Eggs. Eggs.”

No escape. No reprieve. The pit is smooth concrete, slick now with raw egg and humiliation. They can do nothing but stand there, endure, become part of the ritual.

Somewhere in the throng, a vendor hawks boiled eggs. Another sells cartons to the unprepared. A man in a chicken suit waves encouragingly at the crowd.

The night wears on, but the spectacle does not end.

      It cannot end.

Not until the last egg is thrown. Not until the last voice is hoarse.

Not until the world is rid of this one, failed leader, broken not by swords or exile, but by the inescapable weight of public yolk and scorn.

      “Eggs. Eggs. Eggs.”

Goddamn this Biden economy! Poor little d was handed such a TERRIBLE economy.

Every Republican says so and they would never lie. So do the maximalist leftists and the enlightened centrists, so it must be true. I’m sure the economy would have been even worse under Kamala. Thank Athena that little d and fElon are working to fix the terrible economy that Biden left them…
