    It would be great to see them do this, march around with their “straight pride” bullshit, only to have the LGBTQ+ community cheering them on with signs about the first amendment and acceptance.

    Really drill into anyone who hasn’t been paying attention, who the good guys and bad guys here are.

    Probably a pipe dream since this would 100% be more about hate than acceptance.

    You know what would be the fucking best thing ever? If everyone showed up and was totally supportive. Like those hateful bigots are all marching and hollering and then here comes the pride parade with hetero banners and signs saying “Heteros Are Awesome!” and other really positive shit. And they’ll be all like “We don’t want your support,” and we’ll be like “Fuck you, pride is for all!” And maybe like one or two of them would be like, “Oh…” and then the world is a better place for a moment.

      For a moment I thought you were headed inthe direction of LGBTQ rebranding “All Lives Matter”.

      Like some hateful biggot is chanting “DOWN WITH QUEERS” and then the Pride Parade marches in, and starts supporting them. And the hate parade tries to resist, and then the Pride people start saying they love everybody, and ALL lives matter. And then the hateful side says “WAIT! NO! THATS OURS, AND IT DOESN’T MEAN THAT!” And then the Pride people say “Too late! We’ve rebranded it now! We love you, baby!” And the hateful people are just confused like “what…what just happened??”

        Or we can show up and convince them that there is an ongoing class war and politely let them know they’ve been used to fight themselves and that we have more people on our side of the class war.

    Being a bit of a pragmatist.

    I’m probably as liberal as they come but I’m also older. When I do vote compasses I’m always square in the social and fiscal liberal columns.

    That said, I am friends with people from all walks of life and I can tell you the general consensus is that things have swung too far to the left and what we are seeing is a swing back to the right. It’s all a pendulum. I’ve had this conversation with pretty much every one from every background so it’s not just a white people thing. People need to understand that people from many different backgrounds being their own flavour of hatred and bigotry to the conversation. Asians are notoriously racist. Black people are notoriously homophobic (my African girlfriend doesn’t like my earrings or the fact I wear colourful socks for Christsake).

    What truly amazes me is how fast and how hard the pendulum has swung the other direction in America and damn does it not look good. In Canada it’s swinging right but far more measured and the hope is not much farther.

    Even as progressive as I am my daughter has an after school program called “Girls Inc” and I have thought to myself why don’t my sons have a Boys Inc to which the response in my head is it’s still a mans world and if I tried to make one I’d be accused of something negative I’m sure so I never pursue it.

    I will say right now if the expression is “a rising tide lifts all ships” we have not been paying adequate attention to the ships that are not rising as fast or as much. This is what is causing the pendulum swings IMHO and without addressing the deep underlying and systemic issues it’s only going to get worse.

    I’m a straight dude and would love to socially meet more hetero women… but this sounds like the lamest and (ironically) gayest event I’ve ever heard of. Guaranteed it’s going to be filled with ugly, un-fun, angry people counter-protesting. You know the type, critically concerned with what the fuck other consenting adults do…?

    I mean, ok. Pride isn’t exclusionary. Most gay people have straight parents, siblings, friends and so on. If you feel the need to celebrate being straight, that’s cool. If you think you’re a victim because you are straight then I might suggest some therapy.

    Hundred bucks says the grinder app’s going to get a lot of traffic that weekend. There’s going to be very busy bus station bathrooms, and maybe Airport bathrooms? I don’t know if they have airports in Idaho.
