No, it was a protest that, like many in this country, featured instances of vandalism and violence as a direct result of bad crowd control and escalation by law enforcement. Calling it an insurrection means accepting a precedent for harsher criminalization of future protests of all types and their associated movements, especially the ones that threaten capital. It also means dishonoring the likes of heros who really did go for it, like John Brown.

But your comparison to the two falls flat as John Brown was absolutely right to overthrow a corrupt slave owning government. The other was for illegally stopping Congressionally approved funds - good thing he never would do that again.
