Funny how apple both steals 3-10 year old features from android and “invents” them, while also ringing the death nell for features on android phones 1-2 years after apple removes them.

I recently disconnected my phone from my car’s bluetooth because the experience was so awful, and I’m back to “iPod” mode over usb. Charging is slow, but almost every other experience is better. My wife’s phone is still connected, and every once in a while I’ll pull up to the house and immediately get the audio from her phone call that is going on inside the house transferred to the car.

Only a couple phones had the IR blaster. One I had was the worst Android phone I owned.

Mainly an iPhone/Mac guy, but I also have a Galaxy S10. Headphone jack, check. Memory card slot, check. 5.8”. Screen looks better than that of my iPhone 16 Pro Max, and it’s way lighter. Keyboard works better too. It’s only LTE but I don’t have service on it — WiFi only. Battery sucks for obvious reasons. Solid phone though. Only thing I don’t care for, Samsung cameras aren’t great. So I shoot with the iPhone.

I recently replaced a Pixel phone (battery issues) with a Samsung XCover7 Pro. Hated to go with Samsung (or Google for that matter), but the choice was 99% because of the XCover having a user swappable battery. It’s ridiculous to have to replace a 3yr old phone because a nonreplaceable battery goes bad. Batteries die, need to be replaceable.

Curious what you use it for. I take close-up and far-away pictures all the time, both during my job and in my personal life and I don’t think I’ve ever wanted a rear-camera image from further away than I was…

I do a lot of documentation. So taking pictures of rooms .5x vs 1x zoom makes a huge difference. Taking pictures of rack for example, you can’t get a good picture of an IDF rack at 1x zoom, you’ll have to take 2-3 shots. .5x zoom you can get the whole thing.

They also took away our conversations. If you’re really old you may remember how much better it was talking on a land-line. They call these phones but they suck at being phones.

In what way is a landline better for calls? Like I get that the culture around phone calls has changed, but that’s not because of a failure or deficiency in the technology. I do remember landlines, and I don’t personally share your romanticized nostalgia about talking on the phone, but if I have to make a call I’d definitely rather not be tethered to one place. What is it about landlines that you think is so much better for conversation?

I don’t want bezelless touch screens, I need somewhere to grip and give me back the bottom screen buttons so I can wake my phone up without having to pick it up
