  • Tridi 3 Pluviôse an 233 de la Révolution, jour de Fragon

I felt sufficiently confident today to try my luck again with a straight razor – and I did well: no bent razor, no nicks, no irritation. And Narcisse is soo good.

    Have a good evening!

    • Brush: Proraso Professional
    • Razor: EldrormR Industries MM24
    • Blade: GEM PTFE [3]
    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Sheep - Soap
    • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Unscented - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Unscented - Balm
    • Osma: Osma - Osma
    • Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery - G20

I am very, very tired. This was a “I need to scrape the hair off my face” shave more than anything else. It was mediocre, which was expected based on the effort I put into it.

    22.01.2025 - A creamy tobacco SOTN

    • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop Fan hybrid knot
    • Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium w/ RR Superknurl handle
    • Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
    • Lather: E&S Rasage - Shaman
    • Post-Shave: Moon Soaps Old School “balm”

-> 2 pass dome shave and 1 pass on the neck. A very comfortable shave.

I grabbed a random soap from my cabinet today, and luckily it is a very nice one - Shaman is a very warm, soothing and creamy tobacco. It’s perhaps one of the fattest soaps I own though, i.e. really oily. Loading this actually requires effort, but if it goes right it’s a really rewarding experience.

I wondered if the Cyber might do better with my favourite handle of all time, the Superknurl. Obviously this makes it handle-heavy which is generally avoided, but I actually like it. Not that the original hexagonal handle of it is bad though, sometimes I just prefer razors with a little bit more heft to them. And I kinda like creating “frankenrazors”, but maybe that’s just an outdated term for individualising your shave experience.

Very solid shave overall, the aftershave lotion that calls itself a balm was fitting nicely in terms of scent.

NSR: I have started an online course for learning to play bass and so far, I kinda feel alright with it. I’ll probably write more about it on Free Talk Friday!

    Wed 22 Jan 2025

    • Brush: Zenith r/Wetshaving exclusive MOAR BOAR (31 mm × 57 mm bleached boar)
    • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 17 (NOS, 7/8", hollow ground, stainless steel)
    • Lather: Catie’s Bubbles – DFTR
    • Post Shave: Catie’s Bubbles – DFTR
    • Fragrance: Summer Break Soaps – Valedictorian

Lovely early morning shave, this. The premium base of CB is a real pleasure use. It’s not that it’s necessarily slicker than the other good bases, but it’s just slick at every level of hydration. You really don’t need any skill to get a great lather with it.

DFTR’s bright lively green doesn’t complement Valedictorian’s sweetness very well, but neither do they clash. The two scents just kind of coexist. The exploration of DFTR continues at full speed and I’m loving the process.

Tub Kill!!! This brings me down to 31 tubs. My original goal was 40, so I’m doing pretty well. Just in time for a sub exclusive.

    January 22, 2025 – Wild Oud Wednesday

    • Brush: Muninn Woodworks w/AP Shave Co 24mm Titanium Synthetic

    • Razor: Puma 89 #2 11/16 Full Hollow

    • Lather: The Cajun Blade - Wild Oud - Soap

    • Aftershave: Eufros - Rosa Oud - Aftershave Balm

    • Fragrance: Creed - Royal Oud

    • Talc: Yardley Gold

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Today’s shave was a test of a ““pushed”” Escher edge on this razor. There was nothing wrong with the first edge off of the Escher stone, but I wanted to see how far the stone could go so I did some extra refinement on the edge.

The shave was everything I could want. The edge was extremely comfortable, and very keen. It made the razor easy to use with confidence and produced a very close BBS result.

AI generated. Not PC. The soap is made by a fellow YouTuber. Simple soap formula made with beef tallow from grass fed cattle. Very rich and luxurious feel to the lather. Scent strength is mild. If you can stand it, here is the video associated with the photo.
