New soap company for me. I tried Citrus Bay Rum yesterday and learned that I like the soap base a lot. Very easy to lather and has a rich creamy feel. Maple Bourbon is a very nice scent. I expected the bourbon note to be stronger and darker, but it is definitely there. Very nice fragrance.

Today’s shave was a test of a new Escher edge on my Le Transatlantique. Complete success. The edge was keen and the feel was comfortable.

This was my first use of a Subtle Art soap. The soap base has 3 butters and kaolin clay so it is smooth and creamy. Takes water very well.

I’m a sucker for Bay Rum scents. This one has a punch to it that reminds me of Captain’s Choice Bay Rum. This one seems to be a little more refined, but I haven’t compared them side by side yet.

This Puma has a Black Shadow edge on it. I recently watched a YT video of someone using the Green Shadow stone; which is finer and intended for use after the Black Shadow. I wanted to evaluate the edge to determine if I would even want a more refined edge. My conclusion after a very comfortable, BBS shave was that I don’t feel extra refinement is necessary.

This was one of those days when I really took notice of the spiciness in Heather. Such a distinctive fougère! Interestlngly (for me), I found the same feel for spice in the balance of the fragrance in Green Irish Tweed.

The razor today was the first Iwasaki that I bought. It has my Jnat edge on it. Sometime in the future, I’ll do a comparison between shaves from my two Iwasaki razors. The other razor does not have my edge, but I bet the two are indistinguishable.

I am always a bit surprised by Bloom. It is a dupe (and a pretty good one) of Tom Ford Black Orchid. Black Orchid is a fragrance that I find masculine despite its name and description. Here’s what I get from the internet:

The opening of Black Orchid is beautiful and complex, with dark, sweet floral and fruity notes mixed with citrus, all overlaid by the rich, earthy truffle. As Black Orchid dries down, the subtle spicy notes enhance the sweet darkness of the fruity florals

On the face of it, I would not think this is a scent I’d like, but, for me, the blend is such that I only pick up hints of the fruity and floral notes and in the dry-down these add a touch of mystery to what comes across with a spicy earthiness.
