I just got back from a furry convention after using it as a queer space to safely look how I want and god damn it I actually like how I looked. like, I looked in the mirror and saw AN ACTUAL HUMAN. i don’t know how to handle this.

i put in an appointment at the transgender health program at my local hospital but that won’t be till december to speak to someone.

my insurance is estimating they will cover this visit, but will they cover more later or is it a bait and switch?

I got my hair grown out and my weight under 200 so i should have a decent chance of looking decent? I have a really bad resting bitchface.

sorry for the aimless ramble. I think I am just hoping to find someone to talk to. my head is all over the place right now.

Congrats on beginning the journey! Sounds like you know what you want so i think you should trust yourself!

I didn’t have to deal with insurance companies but i did use an HRT provider that went bust before i recieved any meds. Very annoying. Just to say there are pitfalls and it can be expensive. DIY is always an option if you’re struggling for funds.

Remember to have patience. It takes years to transition. It can be an excruciating wait but for me it was so worth it! Just keep doing what you want :)

honestly thanks, i’m not sure what i’m exactly wanting to hear. pretty sure i’m just up too late and overthinking things.

I have a found family that takes good care of me and i’m already acting as a housewife for everyone here, so all things considered I think i’m privileged. just feeling dumb and overly emotional about it, I blame me being up at 4am posting on lemmy >~>

No worries! Perfectly fine to be emotional. If anything there’s more of that to come lol sounds like you’re in a good spot though!

Overthinking sucks so just remember, you got this!

huh i should plan going to a furry convention some day, i forgot that yeah of course a furcon is a safe lgbtq+ space, and there’s one not too far away from me which i can realistically go to some day, even if i don’t have a fursuit :3c

thank you internet stranger, i feel a bit more hopeful

i staff BLFC if that helps, can’t speak to other conventions but i get the feeling most are really friendly spaces! i spent the whole con in femme mode and got a couple looks from normies passing by the casino, but being in the majority made it less of an issue.

also yeah not a suiter or anything, but my new family likes to volunteer there so i help owo

help, i’m looking for a meme but i can’t find it. a person (who probably doesn’t feel very good, face is covered in black scribbles), looks into mirror and discovers a cute catgirl.

Insurance will almost assuredly cover more. The company will have a document called the drug formulary, which lists every perscription drug they cover, and the details as to how. HRT drugs will be on there, but you can verify for peace of mind.

The insurance company that is so famously bad its CEO was justifiably shot on the streets is currently paying for my electrylosys. They’ll probably cover what you need at least I initially.
