I see it everywhere, reddit comments, lemmy, news articles and mastodon itself. How did this misspelling become so common?

Had me thinking I just never noticed the social media platform was misspelled before…
better than Masturdon…
Just from the way it’s pronounced in English: ma · stuh · daan. It sounds more like an ‘a’ than an ‘o’.
I always said ma stow don.
I pronounce it mas · to · don. Maybe the miss-spelled name for it is based on how people pronounce it verbarly.
