This image captures the moment a former high school football star breaks down in court when his rape charge is dismissed. The dismissal occurred after the 16-year-old accuser admitted that the alleged incident never happened, concluding six years he spent in prison.
When something like this happens the accuser needs to go to jail for the same length of time the accused has spent there.
This image is from 2012. I am not sure why it is interesting (i.e. how it is nearly as interesting as anything else in this commag) nor why it is being dug up and posted now. It isn’t even a good photo.
OP shows why here. This is because he believes false accusations are a bigger problem than actual rape, and is trying to craft the narrative that women don’t get raped as much as they claim.
This is an incel post.
Not only is this an incel post, it’s a reddit repost, ripped word for word: https://redlib.privadency.com/r/interesting/comments/1wxvfr1/this_is_the_moment_captured_when_former_high/
So, OP was so stricken with this reddit post, they decided to post it here. And then make their terrible comment linked by you. That’s how big of an incel they are.
A reminder that blocking on Lemmy is super easy. Blocking the incel weirdo.
Because there’s a lot of discourse around the Cornell gang rape and people have a vested interest in making others disbelieve the Jane Doe in that case.
Indeed, it’s why nothing should be made public and then public after the verdict.
this is… a horror show
Theres credible evidence that these shitsmears hunted her down and drugged her. This is EXACTLY the type of case I point to when I be moan poor situational awareness in the “victims” case, that voluntarily showing up to a frat party is a bad, bad, idea if you are female. These are the kind of degenerates that host them, I’M CALLING OUT THE FRAT BOYS in case it wasn’t clear, and saying what I’m saying as A WARNING to women not an admonishment of victimhood.
You know exactly why it is being posted now.
- Nationwide, 81% of women and 43% of men reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment and/or assault in their lifetime.
- Forty percent of rapes and sexual assaults were reported to police in 2017, but only about 25% were reported to police in 2018.
- The prevalence of false reporting for sexual assault crimes is low — between two percent and 10 percent.
So she ruined a man’s life, stole 6 years from him, made it so much harder for other woman to be believed…
And her punishment will be?..
Nothing so as to not discourage genuine victims of other men
What are you talking about?
In 2013, the Long Beach Unified School District won a $2.6 million judgment against Gibson, recouping $750,000 paid to her along with attorney’s fees, interest, and $1 million in punitive damages;[25][26]
More punishment than any the Cornell 7 have seen for actually gang raping a woman.
I think we would all agree she deserves some form of punishment but I think we would also agree we don’t want to scare off other false accusers from rescinding their lies. That makes figuring out what to do a lot less black and white.
That’s unfortunate. Too bad bad people do bad things.
From experience, most people in education but I know it happens way more often than people know. This is why you don’t see many male teachers
outside of shop classes or drafting, which most schools don’t have anymore. I gave up on teaching because all the bad eggs made you walk on eggshells in a minefield. And on the other hand, there have been at least 3 scandals that broke in my local area alone about male teachers who were inappropriate with students being quietly moved to different school districts with huge settlement payments. And no justice for the victims.
We need to dismantle our rape culture for both types of victims.
Yeah I agree. I would say I hated working in high school. I was only like maybe seven or so years older than the students but looked just like the students–sigh at least I had a staff badge. I would often get the puppy dog eyes from female students and I thought don’t think what you’re thinking please.
In my time in high school there were cases of either-or, and nothing was done about it.
https://www.nsvrc.org/statistics/
“One in five women in the United States experienced completed or attempted rape during their lifetime”
“Nearly a quarter (24.8%) of men in the U.S. experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime.”
“Nationwide, 81% of women and 43% of men reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment and/or assault in their lifetime.”
“One in three female victims of completed or attempted rape experienced it for the first time between the ages of 11 and 17”
And
“The prevalence of false reporting for sexual assault crimes is low — between two percent and 10 percent.”
Sources for all this are linked in the site above.
I think it says a lot that some folks downvoted this despite it just being sourced stats of the level of sexual violence experienced by both men and women and the rarity of false reports. OP chose to post info about a case from more than 15yrs ago and didn’t even bother posting sources (probably because the age of the case would have tipped off how rare these types of situations are). Yes, these types of false reports are awful but the sheer number of incidents of rape against both men and women are staggering.
I upvoted it because it should be said, but to play devil’s advocate in regards to why people might be downvoting it: On threads about sexual assault, people discussing false accusations is generally discouraged, not because false accusations aren’t a problem in theory, but because it distracts from and to a point dismisses the discussion about the injustice of sexual assault currently being presented. This is essentially the same thing; if people truly believed that these issues should be discussed separately, then this is as much a breach of that rule as discussing false accusations on a post about a sexual assault incident is.
If as few as 2% of reported rapes are false accusations but as recently as 2018, it was estimated that only 25% of rapes were reported to police, I think the argument that stuff like this “should be said” falls apart. When looking at false reports, you’re looking at essentially a statistical anomaly when looking at the total number of incidents of rape. Yes, it can be said to happen, but focusing on false reports actively discourages both men and women from reporting acts of sexual violence. The problem of people not feeling safe to report or that they wouldn’t be believed is a problem orders of magnitude greater in size than false reports.
stating the real issue.
it’s shit like this that makes me raise an eyebrow at the term “rape survivor.” I don’t like that is the case; Has real “boy who cried wolf” energy.
KEEP READING BEFORE YOU POST A REBUTTAL
on one side you have someone who is forced to do something against their will for a relatively short time. (which is bad, no argument)
but on the other you have someone who can actually have their life destroyed by the mere accusation of the former.
Seems to me that if you are going to destroy someone you better make damn sure that they are the the perpetrator of such actions, because the punishment is far worse than the crime. (Though justifiably so, in this case)
Injustice is bad. Falsely imprisoning someone is bad. But also, not holding a rapist to account is bad. And the latter happens 1-2 orders of magnitude more frequently than the former.
This is the same bad-faith edge case fixation that anti-trans people spout about “trans girls in sports”, ignoring the fact that said people would almost certainly never be caught dead watching professional women’s sports teams. It’s a comparatively rare issue, in the context of the original issue being discussed.
Also, the fact that you appear to be trying to litigate how bad a person should feel about rape because it typically takes “a relatively short time” is disgusting and infuriating in equal measure, and tells me a lot about who you are as a person.
False accusations are incredibly common. Everyone is on edge because of the cornell case where it’s clear there was premeditation. THAT was disgusting. Using your gender as defense “because you were scared” is also EQUALLY disgusting. Grow up; the world isn’t sunshine and rainbows buttercup. what is TRUE isn’t always pleasant, and maturity is learning how to face that.
If you want to have justified out rage perhaps you should direct that at how the top 1% are raping us harder than any frat boy could to some naive freshman coed.
Wow, what the fuck is the matter with you?
Being raped (can) cause life long severe mental trauma and PTSD in victims, implying that it’s just a 10 minute bad time that is then just over is utterly fucking disgusting and demeaning towards survivors, you are terrible fucking person for believing that and should feel fucking ashamed of yourself.
If someone like you is even capable of feeling shame
is someone like you capable of reading comprehension, or do you just spout outrage after reading half a sentence?
You literally used the fact that rape only lasts a short time to downplay it’s effects on victims, you’re a disgusting piece of crap and a genuinely terrible fucking person.
And judging by the vote totals, most people agree with me on that.
And then you’ll bust out of here and make jokes about how guys don’t last in bed. I may be disgusting but you’re a hypocrite. Enjoy your block.
I AM a guy, genius, and what the everloving fuck does that have to do with literally anything and how the fuck would it be a hypocrite ?
BelievingKnowing that rape is a horrific crime with potentially life long traumatic consequences, regardless of how long or short it lasts, and making fun of guys for cuming quickly, even that were a thing I did, which it isn’t, wouldn’t be hypocritical. Those two things have nothing to do with each other
Upvoted on the title but after reading the comments it seems like this is a decade old story being used for narrative purposes. So i changed it to a down vote.
Now if only incels could learn to change and grow and correct mistakes maybe they wouldn’t be incels anymore.
These one in a thousand stories when the other 999 were legitimate are always used like this to help vindicate the narrative that women make it up
The problem is those thousand cases represent a fraction of the around one hundred thousand victims that will never get justice.
my grandpa always said that 100 attaboys will always get canceled out by only one “Aw shit”
