Oh look, two people that know absolutely nothing about history teachers are gibbering about history teachers. Will wonders never cease?

My history teachers tended to either be leftwing, or the kinds of right-wingers who’s only knowledge of history was what guns were used in what battle

Lmfao, if your school has a class on the American civil war, you might have a right wing teacher.

Those folks know massive amounts of minute details about that war but always seem to forget that it was about having the South’s right to own people as property.

They always say it’s states rights and conveniently ignore that it was the states right to own slaves that was at the top of the list. They will absolutely argue that point and refuse to acknowledge the truth of the matter. I’ve tried

It was about new states having the right to slavery. Both sides of the war had slavery, and the union only abolished it in confederate states. The eventual amendment kept slavery for prisoners so you know it wasn’t anti-slavery. They felt new states without slaves wouldn’t vote in their best interest. To reduce it to slavery shows an inability to relate the events to present times.

For instance PR isn’t a state because both sides think they will support the other. Or Gerrymandering is done union wide to ensure states vote for the party that implements it.

This is bothsidesism. What the GOP does with gerrymandering is insane compared to how the democrats engage in it. Also it is the stated goal of the Democratic Party to get rid of gerrymandering. Right now they are only using it in response to Republicans using it FAR outside the norms and laws regarding redistricting.

None of my history teachers in memory were anything left of American center. I guess I can’t comment on the ones in elementary school since it was basically 30-40 years ago and I didn’t have any real political awareness in my single-digit ages. My US History teacher in highschool was decidedly right-wing (and also an asshole who gave us all murderer/criminal/serial killer nicknames, nastier ones to those he liked least).

Huh, all of mine were the libral joke being mentioned. I aint doubting your experience, but i am curious what region you are from.

Im public school raised, east coast, and like i said all of my social studies and history teachers were very much left leaning.

          That tracks.

It’s interesting, you don’t actually need a history degree in order to teach history in school. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of your history teachers were also coaches.

Ah well you know this history teacher from Hessia that is called Bernd or was it Björn? Yeah he is a bit picky on which parts of history he likes and looks at.

I had the impression a large fraction of history students are in some shape or form Nazi sympathizers. Haven’t heard of leftist history teachers to be a thing tho.

I didn’t, just read about this on Reddit back when I still used to go there. Ah, should have specified that this was in Finland, maybe that makes a difference. But yeah, at least a few accounts confirmed that you can identify the Nazi sympathizers from the first year students pretty easily, and they’re always there.
