As title says. I want to really soak in that high-minded worldview today.
Not necessarily my favorite TNG episodes exactly but some of the best demonstrations of the philosophy of Star Trek (among the ones that haven’t already been mentioned at this point):
- The Quality of Life
- Half a Life
I’ll second Darmok, The Measure of a Man, and Drumhead.
Measure of a man and it’s not close.
They spend the whole episode debating the nature of humanity and fundamental rights, and how they must all be defended, even for those who seem like they could be ignored for convenience.
The pilot of SNW and Ad astra per aspera (SNW S2).
I’ll give that series a chance sooner or later, thanks!
You’re not wrong but OP asked for TNG specifically.
Oh, didn’t see that. Sorry OP. ^^ In my defense, it’s super bright outside and it makes reading on my phone a lot trickier. For TNG - the most important ones for me have already been mentioned here.
The First Duty.
Noted!
This episode is beautiful: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Darmok_(episode)
It is about communication.
Every (classic… I haven’t seen most of the new ones) series has an episode based on Enemy Mine, and this is TNG’s.
If you haven’t seen Enemy Mine, it’s very much worth a watch. Maybe a bit dated but it’s very good.
Yes, I love that movie. Great science fiction and somehow always seems to remain relevant.
I remember Darmok. Hell yeah.
A few come to mind:
- Drumhead
- Who watches the watchers
They’re on the list!
The third I’d add to this list is Measure of a Man. I think between the three you get a good sense of how Starfleet thinks of itself and others.
They get to moralize the most directly in the courtroom episodes.
FeralHistorian is that you?
No but I sense a binge coming on
We have all been there. Enjoy the ride until you will start questioning whether you are a fascist in some latent sense.
Oh crumbs
