Fair point! I have just spent all day arguing against people trying to get me banned from the fediverse. So I guess I left the blinders on.

In this very sub, there was a post yesterday: “TrumpsTruth, Conservatism, TheNewDonald, what’s happening on this instance? Is this a thing?”

And it’s around 60 comments of people telling me how much they hate me, and calling out admins to ban me! So my joke was mostly to them. And a few months before that a thread, “TrumpsTruth, Conservatism, TheNewDonald, what’s happening on this instance? Is this a thing?”

I spend so much time being yelled at that I forget that I’m actually not that well-known. It come because from comments of, “Everyone hates you!” and “Your name is everywhere.”

Good to know that it’s not everywhere. Maybe then they can shut up about how I have ruined the Fediverse and should be banned…

Thanks for calling me out. Edited.

Is there a remind me bot on Lemmy? Asking for a friend that might do something financially irresponsibly hilarious at last second if the auction values doesn’t go much higher.

Stop giving them attention. That’s the only thing they care about. If a tankie wants to have a ‘debate’ with you just say ‘ok’ and move on.

They have no power or any effect on anything. By making them seem bigger than they really are (some niche leftist nutjobs) you only attract new cultists looking to sate their moral superiority kink.

It’s only a problem if you don’t like having chauvinism and western state propaganda brainworms questioned. As a ND queer communist I have never felt more comfortable and welcome posting than on hexbear. Their mutual aid comm is highly active and an immensely helpful place for many people. It’s an adorable community, they get a bad rap by people that come in arguing in bad faith who then run away to shame the hateful ‘tankies’ on their main instance like this post here.

Have you ever been around a child who gets some silly factoid in their head, but it’s completely wrong because children are still learning the very basics of synthesizing the observable world into coherent ideas?

Hexbears are like children who have spent the last six hours explaining to you over and over again that cows can breathe under water.

Their users are needlessly hostile towards anyone who disagrees with them, they had a bug that caused their emotes to become oversized on Lemmy which quickly flooded threads when their users spam them, and they have a reputation for brigading threads to “dunk” on people. They also really like to flood threads with graphic images of pigs shitting on their own testicles, because that’s definitely what normal people do.

It’s worth noting that they don’t federate with other instances to participate in good faith, they do so in order to dunk on people and “dismantle Western propaganda” and “plant the beans of truth in other instances fields” and in general act in bad faith. Worse, their instance admins did little to stop this.

They were defederated from many instances for good reason, as their behaviour drove away a lot of new users. A lot of Hexbear users have alts on lemmy.ml and midwest.social, so the defederation doesn’t stop their users from continuing to be dickheads.

And if you’d like some receipts, I have plenty of examples. Best viewed from an instance that federates with Hexbear, so you can see their behaviour for yourself.

No problem. I was around when Hexbear was still federated with my instance and saw the worst of it all, so I try to keep people informed. Their behaviour nearly made me leave Lemmy entirely, and no doubt others have because of it.

Most of them are tankies (dumb political ideology) but most people took issue with the fact that they were the most annoying people on Lemmy. Every thread they’d be in would be a collection of the worst takes imaginable and they liked to start arguments with everyone else

“Tankie” is a caricature. The idea of a tankie is the ideal vision of a McCarthyian Communist. In reality, the overwhelming majority of people labeled as such don’t actually fit that label, it’s more of a way to cast an image of someone’s positions based on, say, support for AES countries, and twist that into the evil Commie Pinko that haunts the dreams of 1960s children in the US.

So, yes, it’s a pejorative, and not one I think is aiding leftists trying to understand the views of others. More often than not it’s used as “commie” was: to shut down conversation and otherize people.

If someone supports authoritarians masquerading as leftists they subscribe to tankie ideology. Sucks for them that it’s a pejorative TOO.

If people don’t like being called it maybe they shouldn’t openly support such behavior.

What makes someone a Leftist, vs an “authoritarian masquerading as a leftist?” What is “tankie ideology?”

Sure like calling a Nazi a Nazi is technically pejorative. More importantly, it’s a warning identifier to others.

A Nazi is a real thing, there was a Nazi party that ruled a country, and there are still people nowadays who adhere to the ideals of that party.

There was never a “Tankie” party, it’s something that only exists in your head and has no representation in the real world.

I’ve had that happen to some URLs I own before. Basically, they forgot to renew. Normally you get a grace period but some sketchy domain admins take the lapse as an opportunity to auction off what was originally a worthless address now that it has value.

I am willing to bet that the contact person is either gone or not checking email. It wouldn’t surprise me if they lost access to the portal.

Ironic that it’s capitalism that’s going to take down Hexbear.

Yeah but on the other hand it’ll hardly be the first time this community has moved. Looking at the frontpage of chapo.chat the userbase doesn’t seem particularly bothered by the possibility.

I found some people alleging the sav.com is sketchy about other aspects of their service. It wouldn’t surprise me if they tactically overreacted to a single missed email, or a single expired credit card, or something like that, to squeeze their client for more money.
