Will delete if another is made while I’m making this one.
For the fungus gnat fighters, I got these sticky sheets in the post today and cut them up into traps approximately the same dimension as these Bunnings ones.
Works out to like 8¢/trap (or less) instead of $1.29/trap. Being able to make dozens means you can get way more coverage. Also customised the size to be wider for my larger plants, and want to experiment with different shapes just for fun.
They seem to be working, too, in just a few hours many have already caught gnats.
Oh nice. I didn’t realise they came ready made
Much less stress in the kitchen. Made a kickass mushroom and pea curry with cashew cream, and finally cooked up the cabbage (with possibly too much of ajwain seeds). Everything is clean and tidy and I don’t feel so overwhelmed. Success!
I’m going to have another crack at Juice… 25% of the way through and not that impressed, seems like a lot of heavy handed exposition atm. But I’ll keep going
Night night
What aggrevates me is that if you agree to do something, actually fucking follow through.
If you don’t want to, then just say so, instead of fucking me around for days.
Fucks sake.
Some people don’t understand that they’re fucking with someone’s life.
Melbcat still takes her breaks in the other room and cuddles a lot but she seems to have perked up a bit. She’s often finessing me for treats and I think she can see them - I shook out a few crumbs which she ignored but when I placed a full treat in front of her she went for it instantly.
She also jumped over a small box to go look out the screen door.
I am overwhelmed
So I have to decide between uni A and uni B. I am currently enrolled in uni B. Uni A is 20 minutes closer than uni B. Uni A also will give me a scholarship which would be about half a year of pay at my casual retail job. They also offer paid employment a few days a week next year whilst doing a project that’s part of the coursework. This is seemingly a no-brainer, but part of me just wants to stay at uni B? Uni B has a few perks in terms of subject selection which could help with employment, but uni A is pretty much guaranteed experience and employment. Uni A will only let me teach two learning areas, where one I wouldn’t feel comfortable teaching unless I absolutely had to, but that learning area is more employable. The Uni A option will allow me to support myself better financially, but I don’t think I’m ready to be thrown into a classroom so soon without any supervision.
I also have to remember that I’m not stuck into any of these, but I have to make a decision on which uni for this year by the end of this week.
This overwhelming paragraph represents the state of my mind right now.
Then I have to pick between piano and guitar lessons because I can’t keep doing both. I think keeping piano is something I want to do because it is relaxing and I wanna learn jazz piano. I can figure out piano more on my own, although having lessons will mean more accountability. But I feel like I shouldn’t give up guitar because it hasn’t been that long and I haven’t given it my best shot? My pinky finger refuses to cooperate, and I don’t know if it ever will.
If you don’t mind me asking what level of teaching were you aiming for?
Secondary!
You’ve thought about the pros and cons for each. I would try to push it to the back of my mind for a few days and do other things- let it percolate away in your subconscious.
Come back to it on Friday or whenever you need to decide, and I reckon you’ll know what you want.
That’s an excellent idea, thank you :)
Uni A.
They sound very caring.
Well that’s enough news for today. Clive Palmer has a new political party, called Trumpets of Patriots. No this is not a Beetota advocate headline.
“Trumpets” lol where’s my mute? I’m tempted by a violin case for these idiots…
I needed to have got off this ride years ago 🤡
ffs, that’s like saying Hitler for Patriots in the 1930s
these cunts can just fuck off
I really hope he fails in spectacular fashion, there’s no place in Australia for a trump like party to exist.
Also I’m sick of his ads on tv.
Sounds like a bunch of ‘patriots’ farting in synch
So I won’t be so easy with the treats anymore. It makes fluffy tums sore.
This is too funny. Laneway was not worth it.
Testing positive for both covid and the flu.
🦪
So we’re back to thinking ‘is this worth getting covid for?’ before we do anything again… yay.
Not me mate. We just didn’t really enjoy the music or the food this year and this is what we’re left with haha. We’ll be there again next year!
Oh, that totally sucks!
Brutal!
Rest up man! That sucks hairy balls!
oh no, you take care and get better soon
Opinions wanted.
I’m looking to live right by the seaside but it’s hard to get a place.
Is it better to get a bit of a shitty place in a wonderful location ( the place I’m in now is a disgrace so it’s not like I would be going from a good place to a dump, I’m already in a dump )
or a better place in a worse location?
I reckon I can fix up a place to be more comfortable but I can’t actually move a house to a better location.
Location, location, location.
I also reckon go for a preferred location, as long as the house repairs would be manageable. It would be a nicer environment to live in and also better resale value in case you decide to move.
It’s just renting
Ah… I’d say the same thing, provided the rent was reasonable and house ok to live in. I think the problem with seaside towns is competition from holidaymakers would bump the prices up
this is a city suburb, no holiday makers , the only possible prob is people who park their cars on the weekend
but I talked to neighbours and it’s not a prob right there
Sounds promising!
Assuming it’s not going to be a big or expensive problem I’d prefer a slightly crummy place than a bad area. You can fix up a bad place but there’s not a lot you can do about the area and a bad one will wear on you.
Also if you resold someone would likely want that area regardless of the house’s condition.
The classic advice is to buy the worst house in the best street/location. I reckon this applies here too. Location location location.
I’d buy the one that I could pay off the quickest but that’s just me.
If I were buying I’d pay the biggest amount possible and pay off asap
I hate borrowing money
Location > House quality. A castle in Clyde is still in Clyde. Your kids are old and out on their own yeah.
that’s what I think
I’m stuffed. Had my psych appt earlier, and my brain is MUSHY
I always used to book my appointments on days when I had nothing happening , it was just too hard
Oh I have nothing to do today lol! Decided to play Skyrim to help process my neurons
hugs
Okay, I bought a $30 rotary tool from ebay (including among other things a few drill bits and a cutting disc) and then a 60L outdoor bin with lid from the big green shed.
spoiler
I wanted a proper drill but to be honest I won’t be able to tackle jobs big enough to need one. This little battery operated tool will probably be more than enough for anything I get up to.
My physical health is still not great so I don’t know if I can handle maintaining a compost bin and might have to give up if it gets bad again. But let’s see? I want to tidy up my yard but a green bin would likely be vandalised or stolen. Worst case scenario I could just list the compost bin on Gumtree with or without the contents.
I’m far enough into the crochet bag that I’ve almost finished the first ball of yarn. I’ll learn to join another colour and then find stuff to watch while I keep going
The really important bit about compost is to add at least as much dry carbon matter (autumn leaves, hay, dried lawn clippings, shredded cardboard, shredded newspaper) as wet vegetable scraps. Tea bags/coffee grounds are sorta in between. There are whole tomes of info on doing compost but it’s pretty foolproof if you keep the dry/wet ratios about equal with the dry predominating. I would also recommend getting a bag of worms to put in the compost cos they do wonders to keep the compost non-smelly. And a longish stick/fork to stir up the layers occasionally to keep it properly aerated and cooking away. I use a very old 3 prong hoe with a shortish handle to do this in mine. Once a compost bin/heap is cooking away merrily, it can cope with almost anything that was once alive. Including all the stuff that they say you can’t put in it such as citrus peel and meat bones and avocado stones and eggshells. I once put an old pair of jeans in my heap, and there wasn’t anything left of them except the buttons & rivets a year later.
Oh there will be plenty of dry leaves and shredded paper, also dried or fresh grass clippings. I actually won’t have many wet vegie scraps or fresh stuff which might be an issue.
Worms sound good but I’m afraid to kill them through neglect by letting them dry out. And not enough edible vegie stuff.
I have a garden fork if that works?
Also is there a way to keep it warm enough over winter that it keeps cooking?
Garden fork is perfect! Also, drying worms doesn’t actually happen - they go into aestivation, having laid eggs. As soon as things moisten up, the eggs hatch and the adults re-activate. Yes, they are less active in winter, but they don’t actually stop - just burrow deeper which is what you want for circulation of nutrients.
Wet vegie scraps are an extra - you might need to give the compost an occasional bucket of water but seriously, the worms actually generate quite a bit of moisture themselves. I’ve never had a dryness problem that couldn’t be fixed with a bucket of water whatever the season. Worms are the gift that keeps on giving. They eat the dry stuff too - and turn it into wonderful worm castings. Just takes a bit longer.
Most compost problems are too much moisture and too little aeration. Worms fix both.
As you’ve probably figured, I’m a fan of worms. I like the way they do the heavy lifting while I kick back with a glass of wine.I’m just scared I’m going to hurt the little beasts. Especially with a fork. Also monies 🪙🤏
The fork seems to be OK - I had a few casualties when I used a spade but they seem to wriggle away from a fork or hoe.
Knackered after a 7am start and lots of driving but at least I was up where the air is fresh and the views are scenic. I feel kind of bleah coming back to the city after all that. Oh well. At least I got to escape too much tedious talk in the office before coming home.
Gonna make a mushroom and pea curry tonight thickened with blitzed, soaked cashews… and use all the implements I need, for I do not need to hand wash most of them💃 yayayayay
Got my nylon string and bass back from being fixed. Yeeha!
Just had to change my NBN again thanks to NBNs shitty 6 months deals. Exetel were the cheapest with $65.99 for 100/20 Mbps for 6 months. But the kicker was 100 bucks on top cash back (in like 6 months). If you feel like changing let me know, I think I can get a referral code for you. Dont know if that gives both of us a discount or just me though.
Just a heads up with exetel. Their billing system has bugs. They’re chasing me for bills I actually paid. Going to have to put the ombudsman onto them. Their billing team is very hostile. Aussie broadband is more expensive but has better support.
no problems going to the TIO on them if thats the case. But I just cant be spending the amount of money aussie or superloop want for NBN these days.
