Fox News appears to have removed their DOW ticker in a pattern for the company, choosing to block out the steep drop in DOW points after Trump’s tariff announcement

We all know that BAD NEWS sells so they must think the crashing stock market is GOOD NEWS.

it seems to me like the people should have no problem coordinating an attack on fox news that would take them off the air. i feel like that’s an easy one to do that doesn’t require a leader, just anonymously post maps detailing the infrastructure of their studios, where security guards are posted, any known passkeys, etc.

Eh. I don’t care about Internet points, I just think it’s funny. And even though we’re on Lemmy we should probably still be careful about out-and-out calling for attacks against a rogue president’s favorite news station.

We can go politely ask them to stop broadcasting. In numbers.

no offense, but can we please stop with the goose and gander comparisons? it just feels like trying to slam dunk for internet points. we all know they’re hypocrites. let’s just focus on solutions rather than finger pointing.

that would take them off the air.

Not sure how hard that would be. Their disaster recovery plan would have to be pretty bad not to be able to switch to another geographic location in a hot minute. And if they’re still in Rockefeller, you’d probably have a hell getting past the elevators without them shutting it down. They probably have backup satellite uplink so you can’t just knock out their fiber.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for another Max Headroom, but I think we need to shut them down with fairness in broadcasting laws, or, gallows, just sayin’

I googled for fox news screenshots, but can’t find any with ticker… I’m confused, where is it usually?

Edit: Found a clip, unfortunately with Trump onscreen here

As an old fart I’ve never lived under an administration that I considered a real threat. Even Reagan, who was raged against by the left and beloved by the right, at least had some restraint and considered his actions. Each president did something that I didn’t like but I never felt like psychopaths had taken over and were just letting their whims and manias run rampant. Their personalities also felt reasonable and at the very least respectful of others. I also never felt that a large chunk of my fellow citizens were a threat to democracy. The evangelicals were always that way but felt like a fringe group before.

Reagan’s just took time to poison the system. Everything we’re seeing now is from that time period, build up.

Hell of a thing, ain’t it? I remember the tail end of Regan as a child. I come from evangelicals, these are the sort of events I would expect them to freak out about, but instead, they’re willingly along for the ride.

Somehow this is the most dystopian thing I’ve witnessed recently. Just straight up disappearing reality once it doesn’t fit the regime’s narrative. Chilling.

I think the other famous one applies even more:

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

I feel like the original quote applies here pretty well, no real need to change it…

        War is peace

        Freedom is slavery

        Ignorance is strength

I feel like, as a non American, ignorance is bliss.

But I’d realize all of this is insane shit even if I didn’t hear about it daily.

Well feigned ignorance can totally be a strength, but actual ignorance is only worth your luck or others’ protective instinct

It is so much easier and comfortable to just close your eyes to the troubles of the world, but it also means that you won’t see what’s coming and will not be able to act. So this sort of sensory overload with negativity and craziness is kinda the point. The more people are tuned out and overwhelmed, the easier it is for assholes like Musk and Trump to push their agenda through. It’s also talked about in 1984, where the quote comes from

Gave a book club with elderly. Chose 1984 for January.

A woman literally said after we had discussed this that the salute wasn’t the salute.

The Jewish woman next to hers fingernails were about to grip through her own wrist.

Shocking to see the dissonance in real time like this and then.

The worst part? There is no need for it. 1984 can only happen in places other than america, after all. America is a shining beacon of beautiful democracy that is #1 in everything, ever. Anyone saying otherwise is just a whiny bitch social communist.

The maga idiots are not in their position from logic, but from following the cult, and the cult is the current president.

“If we stopped testing we wouldn’t have so many positive cases”

      This is hardly new.
