I never actually watched the video. Now that I watched I think he didn’t mean to make a Nazi salute. He pressed his chest before raising his hand. I think he meant to salute his audience. That would also align with what he’s saying.

Unbelievable how such a trivial and unimportant comment that I wrote while taking a shit can trigger such a fuss here. Insults after insults. Why can you not relax for a moment and be happy? I meant no harm with my comment. Blocking accounts on the Fediverse based on that… Pathetic

Yes, the way a Nazi would - now shut the fuck up about it not being a Nazi salute.

You shut the fuck up. Bring your toxicity and unhappy life elsewhere.

Imagine some random person on the internet said something you don’t like and you immediately get triggered like that. Laughable.

First of all, I’m not defending anyone. You lack reading comprehension. Me saying I interpret this not as a Nazi salute does not imply I like Musk or think he’s not a Nazi.

Second, I’m not deleting any messages. They got removed by mods for being insulting. So are other messages by other people who insulted me. But you can see that as it says “removed by mods”. Back to reading comprehension…

please don’t do double speak: calling it a roman salute is already trying to give it any historical rationalisation.

it is a nazi salute. there is little to no evidence of romans doing that salute. the only history with that gesture starts around 1914.

Roman salute comes from rome indeed. Its historical indeed, namely q930s. Coincidentally made by the same people who invented faschsim, coincidentally named faschists.

The claim that the salute has its origins in ancient Rome is dubious at best and ignores the fact that the salute is immediately associated with Nazism. Not a single Roman work of art depicts the salute. Don’t you think that’s a little fishy? There is evidence that it actually originated from the National Fascist Party, under Mussolini. Suffice to say there’s no good evidence that it originated from ancient Rome as opposed to it being a relatively new thing starting from the turn of the 20th century and originating in fascism.

At birth God must have swapped your mouth for your asshole because everything you say is shit. The Roman salute never existed. It was used in art after the Roman empire. Nazis saw it and liked it and used it as their salute. Elon is absolutely doing a Nazi salute. Twice. Now get the fuck back to X where your supreme leader can save you from the real world and free speech.

He had ample opportunity to go back and apologize, say he didn’t mean to, with how it looked, anything. But no he went to double down with anti semitism, and supporting the afd. He didn’t, it was a nazi salute, and it shouldn’t be shouldn’t be defended.

Cool cool cool. So since it looks like a Nazi salute and was maybe accidental, he will surely apologize for the appearance and make sure no one misunderstands and thinks he is green lighting Naziism. That would be a good way to know. Should not take more than 24 hours. Even a tweet would help. Or a Xit or whatever we should call it now.

Remember when he was investigated by the SEC for Tweeting out that he was buying back Tesla stock for $420 apiece?

And when he got booted out of the company he started because he insisted on naming it “X” despite everyone telling him that made it sound like a porn site?

And when he accused those divers of being pedophiles because they rescued stranded children before he could find a way to make it about himself?

And when just about every time he announces he’s saved government money, the number “saved” is immediately backtracked?

And how the whole reason he owns Twitter is he made on offer that he immediately tried to back out of and would have if not for the threat of a multimillion dollar suit for breach of contract?

Elon Musk does not think shit through. However smart or stupid he is, however deeply he does or doesn’t believe the Trump Administration’s fascist bullshit, he does not dedicate much time to thinking about it before he does stuff. I do not doubt for a moment that he performed and meant to perform a Nazi salute. As to what he was thinking, I cannot say. Maybe he cannot. He definitely has sympathies for anti-semitic and racist movements, but I don’t think he thought he was going to be hailed as the savior of the Aryan race for doing it. Maybe he thought it would be funny. Maybe he thought it would be “ironic.” Maybe he thought it would get “teh libz” in a tizzy. He probably didn’t think he would have to avoid ever going to Germany again under threat of being arrested. Whatever he was thinking, he probably wasn’t thinking it more than five seconds before he did it. And he’s clearly not thinking it now. Because despite being the richest man on the planet, Elon Musk is a bumblefuck who doesn’t think things through and has thus far been able to buy or otherwise ride his way out of any consequences of the things he has done without thinking about them.

Now that we know there are people denying what it was and defending him, he can push it further, rally his/trumps base, create distractions and continue the grift while planting seeds of racism and violence among the communities. distraction mostly, but he’s a piece of shit human.

Most likely Musk was testing the waters, but there’s also a high probability that he’s just plain stupid, after all, this is the same guy who pretended to be the best PoE2 player by paying others to play the game for him, only to then accidentally expose his own lie on a live stream.

Regardless of his reasons for making the gesture at that moment, taking into account his family history and the parties and people he supports, that gesture was without a shadow of a doubt a Nazi salute whose ideology he admires.

It’s pretty well-known (as he admitted on SNL in 2021) that Elon Musk has Asperger’s Syndrome. This is evident in his inability to understand social cues and appropriate communication, his hardwired complete lack of empathy, and his strange and overpowering obsession with the letter X. He probably thinks he’s being edgy or hilarious without understanding that there are social consequences for those things that he does not have the ability to comprehend in the moment. Even scarier, actually, if you look into the history of the man the condition was named for (Hans Asperger) and some of the things he was into… you know, like generic purity and being a Nazi.

I also have Asperger’s syndrome, it’s just the old name given to the condition of those who presented autism with the mildest symptoms of the spectrum, it doesn’t take away my ability to know the meaning of a Nazi salute and what doing it represents, so I see no reason to excuse him because of that.

Imagine the leverage you’d need to have to make “the richest person in the world” do a Hitler salute on live TV. Sure, people who tolerate, much less support, Nazi stuff “are Nazis too” but I’m willing to believe that he might not have actual genocidal / thinking races are subhuman / etc beliefs and if he does, it happened recently - way after he became compromised.

To a certain extent, “bad” people succeed in capitalism and become powerful because of inherent personality traits, and a combination of lack of consequences and privilege creating lack of empathy. But to a much greater extent, I think power is handed to people once enough blackmail material is gathered

The pedophilia shit is not a coincidence.

Elon and Trump are fucking cowards.

They stand no chance when some actually bad people turn up.

Remember when we said that about Bush? This perspective leads to inaction which will allow us to continue down this path. They are actually bad. Have better standards.

Reproducing is a way to gain power. On paper, saying smart people need to reproduce is a good goal, but we all know that the zip code of a child is a stronger indicator of their success than many other factors. But yeah if you start saying “only x race should reproduce because x race is smarter” then that’s bad. Republicans are anti abortion and contraception so that they can increase power, too. Having more uneducated people keeps them in power.

Its all about power. Making people racist and abusing that racism for their own is benefit is all part of the distraction. Racism is bad especially when it causes divide and conquer. But I also think we should focus on how those things are tools, and look for ways to prevent the goals that those tools enable.

His lineage is literally the Nazi party, he’s been indoctrinated from birth with that shit, not recently

But to a much greater extent, I think power is handed to people once enough blackmail material is gathered

He was born rich and lucked his way to more riches, simple as. Turns out rich idiots just do bad things, so it’s easy to find out that they’ve done so. Quite literally a requirement in capitalism to be a monster if you want to “win”

I’ve been able to find stuff about his mom’s dad being pro apartheid which is obviously bad but is not “literally the Nazis”. And that his dad claims to say apartheid is bad but said some sus stuff over the years.

Even if he didn’t do the work himself and sounded like a complete idiot in that leaked Twitter meeting, he did objectively advance society. I think the world is better off with things like Tesla Amazon Uber and DoorDash. Musk outlived his usefulness long ago though and is a net negative now to the point of almost undoing all the good he may had had a hand in creating. Society can survive this level of capitalism if it prevented generational wealth. The incompetency compounds and the inevitable conclusion has finally revealed itself.

So you failed to find the part where they left Canada for South Africa because, as members of the Canadian Nazi Party, Canada wasn’t fucked enough for them? It’s like… Basic info on his family

          he did objectively advance society.

Lol, no, that would be the people he paid. He deserves 0 credit for that

If it’s so basic, obvious, and universally agreed, then he would have been boycotted much sooner. And yeah there’s only so much time I’m gonna put into research to reply to a random Lemmy thread. He’s a piece of shit and I don’t need to look for more evidence of that - it’s not going to change my opinion or cause me to take new actions. Even if you’re right, my greater point is about how blackmail and secrets drive power. Pedophilia, Nazism, same shit from that perspective.

I know he’s not actually a founder, but he deserves credit because EV companies have been getting outplayed for decades and now we finally them. People are tools, they do what they’re paid for. Very few truly innovate or move any kind of needle anywhere.

We’ll probably never know how many lives have been saved from FSD due to drunk/tired drivers who have already made the decision to drive instead of picking up their car in the morning or renting a hotel room. And I’m not aware of other EVs that have charging integrated into their navigation. And single pedal driving is awesome.

Amazon has crazy innovation in automation and logistics that allow us to get all kinds of shit with same-day, overnight, or two-day shipping. Their rearchitecture to api-driven software was hugely impactful, and they pretty much invented the cloud.

Uber introduced transparent pricing and accountability for taxi drivers to actually provide a good experience for their customers

DoorDash means we can get more than just shitty pizza or Chinese food.

All of these things make life better. The problem is that when people go (or reveal their) crazy we don’t strip their power or influence. The money and fame goes to their head and because they’re rich they don’t need to listen to advice because they begin to think they’re an expert in everything, and their money means they can succeed in new things, such having the ability to recognize whether or not they’re the baddies.

But hey since we’re insulting each other, I’d like to point out that guillotines are pretty big so before you’re actually gonna be able to build one, you’re gonna need to touch grass. In other words, you need to recruit allies if you want to win. I wish the world were more simple, too. But it isn’t.

If you look at the personality organization of malignant narcissists, you learn that their sense of self and even their memory is fragmentary. They’re in the realm of borderline personality organization, which is halfway between neurotic (normal) and schizoid.

This is why it makes sense to them that history should start fresh every day. They don’t connect actions with consequences because their brains are not set up to do that.

    because it didn’t work.

the whole idea was to trigger the libs with a vague gesture, like that one bitch who turned it into an awkward wave, but he got a little too into it and now people are setting his cars on fire.

I think it’s more that he got a bit too excited about the way the far right can get away with absolutely anything. The media will make excuses for you, the fan base will love it, the more outrageous it is the more it makes libs cry. The democrats will impotently voice objections, the Overton window will move as required, and you will have gotten away with it. I think he wanted to be the star of that whole circus.

Vague gesture? It was a full on nazi salute.

      Are you afraid or something?

The above commenter is saying that Elon likely tried to be vague about what he was doing, but failed at subtlety and made an obvious Nazi salute.
