transcription: the “(character) is homophobic?” trend cracks me up because when i was 15 i tried to tell my mom i was lesbian by saying “mom… i dont like guys…” and she just said “AMEN” assuming i was just being misandrist and did and illegal u-turn to get to a tamale shop before i could reply

Was OOP’s mom not craving tamales until OOP dropped the anti-boy news? Would OOP’s mom not have made an illegal u-turn if OOP had sat quietly as a well-behaved passenger?

The biggest trick the patriarchy pulled was inventing misandry as a response to women just wanting equal rights, which was seen as an attack on men

It’s a good trick for sure, but I think the greatest trick was convincing young men that women were the ones taking away their opportunities rather than old men.

My female boss told me “I don’t trust men with the money, that’s why I don’t promote them to shift manager” how is that an old man’s fault?

Probably saw all the dumb shit Bezos and Musk do and drew a conclusion on men from that. Simple as.

What was the intention behind this comment? It’s construction seems to guide the reader to the idea that is a reasonable deduction. It even uses two disliked figures as an anchorpoint, as if examples of financially-obese men validate the opinion.

So are you just saying “this [anecdotal] woman’s bigotry is actually logical”?

If it was simply a joke, then I think it just leaves a lot to be desired. Like the entirety of a joke. But that’s the only other option that doesn’t just read as endorsing misandry.

I was bored, wanted to see if I could come up with a half-reasonable explanation for her statement, and that was the first thing that came to mind. Sorry if it caused you any annoyance, Mr. Data.

There is no reasonable explanation. It would rightly be seen as misogynistic if you flipped it round using female examples.

Hey, I’m not gonna flame you for a bad joke. Everyone makes jokes that don’t land how they expected.

But some joke topics are like hair-trigger explosives and can’t be handled carelessly. Although this was more like a cherry bomb.

Cause like, it’s not the wanting equal rights that anyone sees as an attack on men.

That’s an extremely naive thing to say.

a bunch of men in charge of the world convinced women to be dicks to men in response to women wanting equal rights?

Certainly women aren’t rightfully pissed off on their own at the men in charge of the world for refusing to grant us equal rights, no way no how /s

What the fuck is this framing?

Women aren’t the problem here. There is no attack on men aside from some feminists being mean to you and your feelings getting hurt (which I support happening).

Yes, but I also think it’s important to specify that men will more often call misandry when women hold them individually accountable for their behaviour, rather than it normally being in response to women challenging the system.

Misandry is what they think it is when women tell them they’re not entitled to sex or to even express misogynistic, patriarchal values. I was called a misandrist once for saying I’m not comfortable with men because of trauma, and the overwhelming consistency in negative experiences with nearly every man I met until I was an adult (at which point I was more free to simply not interact with them).

People need to get it in their heads that men as a group materially benefit from patriarchy the same way that white people benefit from white supremacism. This whole gilded cage nonsense isn’t true. Rapists and people who commit femicide like the power they have and they aren’t victims. Saying patriarchy hurts them too is the same kind of logic used to defend imperialist soldiers: he didn’t know any better.

Even the “good men” benefit from being compared to the bad ones and from being seen as protectors.

The whole idea of what masculinity is has to be reconstructed from scratch. It has been associated with misogyny for like thousands of years. We need a total society shift and a whole new reification of gender.

I feel like the internet is gas lighting me right now because I can’t find any evidence of it existing but ive seen that shit before. I’m going to blame Elon because I believe it originated on Twitter and after they started making people sign up to see posts getting info from that site is impossible.

Basically the format is usually 1 fem character, and another character of any gender. The fem character would say “I don’t like guys”, meaning they were a lesbian. The other one would have a thought bubble that says something like “Fem is a misandrist?!”, and say to fem “Thats awesome”, leading the fem character to think “Other is an ally?!” and that was pretty much it.

it was funnier to see in meme form but. i can not find it.

On my wife’s 🛜, she saw them more as “character is gay?” than “character is homophobic.” She can’t find the SonicxShad, Owl House, Gravity fall, X-men ones, etc., but we do recall them. We just can’t find the kym entry.

The X-men one was particularly hilarious, because Wolverine is canonically bisexual, and Morph fluid. And they weren’t even phobic-questioning, it was just Logan speaking in his boomer-esqueway, and Morph being confused cause he’s a millennial.

I usually see it as a man saying “I don’t like women”, then someone else mistakes them for a sexist and says “that’s not good”, then THEY get mistaken for a homophobe. Hence “(character) is homophobic?”
