While we’re bubbling people, you know how sometimes when one person dies their significant other dies shortly after? What I’m saying is, someone should probably be checking on Sir Ian McKellen.

“I’ve been working with Bill Shatner yea these 40-plus years. He never seems to get it right. I gave him, ‘It’s Takei, as in way.’ I even said, ‘as in gay’… I told him, ‘It’s Takei, rhymes with toupee.’ I thought that would do it.”

OMG, they’re gonna get sucked out that window into space, where that one Enterprise is frightfully retreating!

Just proves to me that Bill Shatner is sucking the life force out of all his co stars to live longer. Very on brand for him.

He’s only 9 years older than Patrick Stewart, apparently. I view TOS and TNG as very distant from each other, but they were only 18 years apart.

It is crazy how TNG feels much more recent.

Somewhat related, it’s also crazy that Rosalind Chao (Keiko O’Brien on TNG) played Soon-Lee on MASH (the woman who marries Klinger). MASH and TNG feel absolutely eons apart, but in real life they were within ≈4 years of each other.

But at age 90, it’s something like a 1 in 4 chance you’ll die every year. So, even if he’s only 9 years older than Stewart, the odds of him outliving Stewart would have been pretty low, all other things being equal.

Its more that he has out lasted the TOS crew. If he goes after George then I know for sure some dark arts are a foot.

Stewart played one of Rome’s greatest and most arrogant tyrants. A role he performed well in I, Claudius. Surely this is why he died first, Tiberius had his revenge.

Then again, William Shanter played an arrogant actor turned murderer in an episode of Columbo. But it wasn’t a very good episode so maybe thats why he goes unpunished for it?

Shatner came back as a Columbo villain in Butterfly in Shades of Grey, one of the ‘90s TV movies. I think he did better the second time around, but his mustache is atrocious.

He played the main bad guy in Loaded Weapon as well. I don’t know, also heard Shatner is bit of a jerk and could contribute to him living longer.

Shanters jerkiness is no secret. He does seem to have mellowed with age and having quit drinking. It’s incredible he keeps going and flew into space at his age. The irony is Bezos’s own jerkiness overshadowed Shanters when you watch the video after he landed and Bezos is spraying campaign around a recovered alcoholic. Maybe Shanter lived so long in order to redeem himself? That’d be a very Kirk thing to have happen.

Maybe it was just because of the situation, but I briefly meet him about 15 years ago and he was perfectly pleasant. But it is different meeting someone one off and working with them. He was fairly old even then and I am still amazed he is with us.

    Kirk said he’d die alone.

Last person alive perhaps? AI chooses him to live

Not only surprising that Kirk outlived Picard, but Shatner is still performing!

He did riot fest and a heavy metal show.

Then he goes on tour starting today with short runs all the way to February of next year.

Maybe he enjoys the same benefit as Keith Richards: for every cigarette you smoke you lose 6 minutes of your life and it goes to Richards/Shatner.

Not that I would ever wish any ill on Stewart. Nice guy, but Shatner’s Kirk is way more enjoyable as a a captain than Cap’n Crunch there.

Edit: I kind of expected this. People seem to be conflating Mr Stewart, whom I do mention I think was a nice guy, with the character he played, which I think was not very interesting, but hey.

However, people are right in pointing out that the comment was ill timed.

You could’ve just kept that one to yourself. Especially in a thread commemorating the death of the guy you’re railing against.

Only a heartless, soulless clanker could write something like that, mere hours after Sir Patrick Stewart’s passing, all while the entire planet is grieving the loss of one of the greatest persons who walked on this Earth.

      Sincerely, FUCK YOU ASSHOLE.

I think it’s just because you’ve not only chosen to be wrong, but you’ve chosen a less than great time to be wrong about this in particular.
